I dont know where you can buy stuff like that............Help would be good.

actually any scanner is good you just need the frequency's from that area or the railroad you want to monitor and put them in the scanner. that's what i did

Radio Shack is one of the few places that are still selling scanners.

If you are really into scanning multiple railroads I would reccommend a 300 channel scanner.

This will tell you about different railroad antennas with better reception

If you want to a better piece of equipment, buy a hand radio. You basically receive the feedback of communications on certain radio channels the railroad uses.
