I am a full-time working mother who is interested in taking action to make her community a better place. I am a good writer and, if possible, wish to use this skill to make a difference. However, I am completely open to all ideas and thoughts and am willing to do whatever I can.

I live in California and I attend on a monthly basis neighborhood watch meetings which generally take place at either the local police station in your immediate area, or a hall at a nearby school.
You can begin by calling your local police department for information on any types of meetings they conduct that you can attend. From there, it will open you up to a world of possibilities to community events. You will be amazed! There are even neighborhood councils that would treasure your interest and impact.

I volunteer in my community whenever I can, and it gives me a very good feeling to give back what I have been fortunate to have been given.

Since you like to write maybe you could volunteer your time to a service organization (many found on the web) and offer to do their newsletter. You should ask your friends what organizations they are involved in, or find something of interest and go that direction. For instance, do you like animals? There are a lot of animal groups. Children? Try Optimist Club or Kiwanis, Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Health- Relay for Life, Diabetes groups...etc. Or maybe see if you can write a column for your local newspaper. Good luck in your search!!

Check out www.volunteermatch.org. It is a great web-site, where you can find various volunteer situations in your area according to the type of organization you want to help (e.g. children, elderly, homeless, mentally challenged, etc.) and what you can do (e.g. grant writing, administrative work, tutoring, etc.).

God bless you in your quest to make your community a better place! Ask Him to direct you to the right opportunity.

I would suggest that you contact your local volunteer center. They can connect you with volunteer opportunities and other projects that can make the best use of your skills and talents.

Volunteer centers provide a variety of one-time and short-term volunteer projects, and can connect you with other organizations for longer-term projects. With your writing skills, you might be able to help write grant proposals, and other documents that can help fund organizations that you believe in.

Good luck

Be an advocate of the movement for women empowerment. Help women who are victims of domestic violence and other women issues. Your being a good writer will help a lot.
