I am undecided whether I should go to Puerto Cana or Puerto Plata for vacation. My friends and I are planning to head to DR in July for some craziness and R&R. The all-inclusive resorts sound tempting but we will most likely rent out a condo or house so we can do whateva we want; plus the prices seem reasonable.
Anyways, what would be the ideal location to party in Dominican Republic yet still have access to the beaches? Your insight is highly recommended.

Fly into Puerto Plata but either stay in Sosua or Cabarete. Single guys prefer Sosua. Young couples prefer Cabarete. The Puerto Plata Airport is actually in Sosua so it is only a few minutes away. Cabarete is also closer to the airport than Puerto Plata and only 15 minutes from Sosua.
Cabarete attracts a younger sports minded crowd that surfs, windsurfs and kite surfs during the day and party all night on the beach at clubs lining the main beach.
Sosua have a 3/4 of a mile long beach lined with bars and restaurants and souvenier shops. Second half of the beach is protected by a reef so it is very tranquil. Lots of diving and fishing from there.
Nights the town turns into a GIGANTIC party with people going from bar to bar and disco to disco. Women are all over the place and are amoung the friendliest you will ever run across.
If you can't hook up in Sosua you can't hook up anywhere in the world!
I live here now for 5-6 years and love it here.

It's Punta Cana, not Puerto Cana. And if you want to party I would say go to Puerto Plata. Punta Cana is gorgeous but its a newer location, its more secluded and very far from the airport. Puerto Plata has tons of resorts and is an older area so there are a lot more places to go party. Punta Cana is more romantic. Of course this is just my opinion. Have fun
