Ever scratched a sunburn? Not a really bad one, just one that's red & going to peel. It's kind of like that.
Keep in mind within 5-15 minutes the endorphins will kick in and turn the volume way down. In full endorphin rush my middle center and side back are still a little rough, but I can barely tell my arm is being worked on. None of it has been something I couldn't take.
Now, I'm a redhead, and I'm supposed to be more sensitive to pain. I'm at hour... um, 11, I think, with at least another 6 to go. I'm rather chomping at the bit for the next session.

it depends where it is. the fattier the area, such as your upper arm or thigh, the less it hurts. the more sensitive the area, and the less skin there is, the more it hurts. i have 5, and the one on my chest and stomach hurt the worst. but the ones on my upper arm, back of neck and back didn't hurt that bad at all. it just feels like a bad pinching pain for a few minutes then it gets kinda numb. any descent tattoo artist can do most work in 30 minutes or less, if it's a smaller piece. the faster the better. the longer you're under the gun the harder it gets. it also depends on your pain tolerance in general. if you're a wuss, forget it.

a lot, but you get used to it, its like getting an injection really fast over and over again, dont let that put you off cos the brain is an amazing thing, it seems you can only feel so much pain at a time, so it reaches a certain level during a tattoo, and then stays there, but the longer it goes on the less you notice, unless he gets close to a bone, then it hurts a bit more, i bet tats hardly hurt fat people.

Imagine somebody pouring gasoline on your arm, lighting it with a match then handing you an ice pick to put the fire out with.......Have you got that image in your mind....Well relax, it doesn't feel anything like that. It feel more like standing too close to somebody who is grinding metal and having the little sparks hit you. As soon as it hits the skin it burns and goes out...but more of them are always falling.....Its really more annoying than painful. I'm having an 8 hour session in less than two weeks....Ink is addictive in spite of the pain..( I have a friend who thinks they put something in the ink) Go to my 360 page and look in my blog under "my secret addiction" click on the pic of my dragon .....my tattoo was 12 hours old in that pic. No blood, no scabs....I hope this helps.

It depends on your tolerance to pain, but I'm the biggest baby ever, and I was fine. The initial shock is basically all you have to get through. What helped me was I had my boyfriend hold my hand and he talked to me to keep my mind off of it. It was like.. scratching a sunburn, as everyone else says.
I believe it also depends on where you put it. I got mine between my shoulder blades on my spine, and it wasn't that bad.
But be careful, it's totally addicting. :)
Good luck!
And don't listen to those who say it's the absolute worst pain ever, and comparing it to getting stabbed with a dull knife in the summer heat. They're lying. :)

well i have 4 tattoos right now.but plan on getting more.it seems like once you get one.youre gonna want more.but it all depends on where you get it.like the one on my upper arm it felt like i was getting cut with a blade.but the one on my back to me didnt hurt as much.since im am very ticklelish.it tickled more than it hurt.but the ones on my ankles hurt too but not as much.when you get a tattoo it only hurts in the beginning.but once the needle has gone in your skin it doesnt hurt so much anymore after that.dont worry.youll be ok!

On the tricep, it felt like a constant bee sting, but wasn't too bad. It only hurts a little. I know the lower back is much more painful, but haven't gotten one there.

it really does depend on where you get it done. mine starts on the top half of my arm goes over my shoulder and down my back. it was all bearable till it got past my shoulder blade then it started to hurt. the pain is worth the gain. like others have said a bee sting would be close

I have tattoos all down both arms. For me, it felt like getting scratched by a cat repeatedly in the same spot...then it went numb after about 15-20 minutes.

I didnt think getting a tattoo hurt. I have one on my wrist and the other one is on the back of my neck. It basically feels like a razorblade going across your skin. I thought the coloring was the worst part.
