Used to show dogs and have a border collie. If they can detect a scar on her stomach, they will know she is spayed. If someone rats you out, you and your dog will be barred from future shows. AKC shows are for non neutered dogs because the assumption is that the best of each breed will continue the best characteristics to future generations. My advice is to wait until her show career has ended to have her spayed.

We raised shelties, and they were fixed after their first cycle.
They can tell by seeing the underside of your dog's stomach
area, and also can tell by the size of your dogs genitals. If she is swollen they will know she hasn't been fixed.
Our dogs were fine temperamentally but kinda a mess, had to wear little pads around. I was always taught they can conceive not when they are cycling, but when a whitish discharge appears after her cycle. It lasted up to 2 weeks. But only happened 2x a year. Don't you want to breed her? Good luck, she sounds lovely!

Hi,

The purpose of AKC dog shows is to evaluate breeding stock. Did your mentor request that your dog be shown? Did you sign a contract to do such? Do you really want to show in conformation?

Dogs can not be altered to be shown in conformation. However, if you want to show in agility, obedience, rally, or the CGC program, you can spay your dog.

Showing dogs cost alot of money. I spend on average $1500 per month to show my dogs. Add to that the start up fees for grooming and show equipment and the bills can get overwhelming. Please think before you show.
