My friends and a lot of other girls in my high school seem to want their boyfriends to buy them stuff all the time, take them out, etc. Is it weird if I don't do that? I mean, if he gets me something, fine, that's great, but I don't think a relationship has anything to do with those things at all and I do not see why they're so important.

The last guy I went out with admitted to not studying for a couple of his tests to take me out, that really bothered me, education should come first. Does anyone else feel this way? :/

Yeah. I don't like it when they buy stuff especially jewlery because to me its kinda a sign they own you or you owe them something. But hey flowers chocolates ect. thats fine but Yeah School comes 1rst and if they don't have the priorities in line then you don't need to mess with him.

Sounds to me like you are a young lady who understands what life and relationships are all about. We live in a world where people tend to value money and material things over people, education and ethics. Not only are you mature, but you are also very smart. If there were more people who thought like you in the world the world would be a better place. Peace and God bless.

Take it from a guy, we dont enjoy buying something when it is demanded, if he likes u enough to get u something unexpected then he does care and u should like it even more because he did it out of love, like, or watever, just not because he felt he had to. And it is normal to feel the way u do, just remember how he is feeling when he tries to surprise u with something nice! Good luck!!

yeah it was back in the 50's, then the sixties rolled in where the hippies took over and ruined America. See hippies had no money or possessions so when they died out, the practicality of the situtation set in in peoples mind that in order to not be dirty rotten hippies, they needed to be greedy bastards. This lead into the 90's a high wave of merchantelism and materialism, so as the new generation took hold they would not be hippies. Cause God hates hippies.

yes ! i agree and also I think it is ok for someone to really like you enough that they havent got anything on their mind but you unless they are just rtying to make you see they really are intrested in you. Either way they are trying to get your attenion and like i am now experincing a problem with what people think.. It is normal. But you are young and so are the guys you will realize more as you grow.

Of course its normal! Guys don't really like it when a girl demand them to buy them this and that. I feel the same way as you do, so yes it's normal. =]

Yes it is normal not to be like that or at least it should be. Perhaps you are not as superficial as some of those other gals. You sound like a good human being.

I would say you have the most pride of all. You are satisfied with who you are and don't need someone to 'buy' you something to make up for any insecurities.

Congrats :)
