Our cat is dead, and I suspect my wife of strangling it. Obviously, she denies this, but I know she's always resented the cat. Now, I don't know what to think - what with the cat now mysteriously dead, two hours after my wife saying 'I'm going to strangle that cat'. What should I do? Just put it down to experience and get a new wife/cat?

Most likely that cat was killed unless it was terminally ill. I would have the body taken to a vet to determine the cause of death

Call Grissom or Horatio Cane to run some tests on the dead cat. Fingerprints, MOD, things like that...an autopsy might be in order...let them do all the work. Then divorce the wife and get a new cat. Or divorce the cat and get a new wife. Or just shoot the wife, bury her with the cat and enter the witness protection program.

First take the cat to a vet, animal shelter, they could tell you for sure, they will go after your wife for animal cruelty, then I would go to a divorce lawyer before she strangles you in the middle of the night. She sounds like she a few cans short of a six pack. Try getting hold of a doctor to talk to her. Anyone that hurts an animal has some serious problems, find out about the cat, and then I would really worry about yourself. Get away while you can, before she gets you! Good Luck!!

OMG. First of all, let me tell you how sorry I am for your loss and that you lost your cat under such dark circumstance. Look at your wife's hands, her wrists, her arms... a cat will put up a fight. Say to your wife that you are taking your dead cat to the vet for a diagnosis of why the cat died. See how she reacts.

That you suspect your wife of doing something terrible like that is a very very strong statement about your wife. Leave her... nothing, and NO ONE is worth putting up with that will give you such mental and emotional anguish. She does NOT love you, nor does she understand or respect your affection and attachment for a beloved pet... who knows, she may be psychotic. Such people are unable to empathize with others. LEAVE her dear freind - you deserve so much better.
Consider the experience as your beloved cat dying to swt you free from this mad, cruel woman. Let not his death be in vain.
I am in tears as I write this. I'll pray for you. And don;t worry, your kitty is in kitty heaven now, waiting for you.

If you really want to know let him have an autopsy. Did you test her by saying that you´ll go right away to get another cat? see her reaction...

Also it is not that when a person says something and this something happens that she is related to that, it was just a coincidence, believe me, I have lived that.

Did she ever caress the cat or fed him or was nice somehow to the cat? If yes then you have to calculate if that resentment was stronger than her nice attitude to the cat.

Also are you sure that you are not seeing things where they don´t exist. All animals die you know.

Ask yourself if you love your wife? If she did kill the poor thing I would not trust her very much, she must be a bitter person.

You and your wife need counseling.. Anyone who would strangle a cat is likely to go on and hurt people too.. well known fact. No new cat, til you get a new wife.. Pick one that likes animals this time.

chekc her wrist for scratch marks, mostly on ur forearm since cats uses there back legs to try and kick the enemy away. Also if u still have the body of the cat, either check the throat for strangle signs, like cracked bones or white gums, sometimes it takes more then the eyes can see, so if u really loved the cat and u want to catch ur wife in the act, ask a vet for a autopsy, and he can tell you by the shape and colour of the lungs. her brain tissue can also tell you sine it also changes by the lack of "O2" (oxygen) i hope the best of luck to you

How old is the cat? If it is old then it might have been naturally. But if it was young I would check her wrists and forearms to see if there are any sratches on her. Or easier(and more sensible) go to the vet and he/she'll tell you after looking at the cat. Hope this helps. Sorry for your loss. I have a cat.

Is scary to live w someone that can strangle an animal that knows you love....

take the cat to a veterinary pathologist, or a veterinary school near, and ask them to perform a necropsy (same as an autopsy). They will be able to determine cause of death. If you can't find a vet pathologist, call the local shelter or rspca and they may be able to find a vet that will do the necropsy for you, if you suspect animal abuse, they may do it for very little or free of charge.

If they don't find any natural cause of death, but do find signs of abuse you can contact the police and file for animal abuse.

And if you don't trust your wife that much, or you are so scared of her, I'd be looking for a divorce attorney as well.

If an autopsy is too much money, then tell her you are getting one.Leave the house with the cat, come back lots later. The next day arrange a friend to call as if they were the vet.Hang up and then just evil eye her silently until she says "whats wrong with you?" Then say that was the vet,I want you to tell me how this happened.

start by getting a new wife. then get a new cat. did anyone, wife or otherwise, threaten my cats, they'd literally be dragged by the neck & physically kicked out my front door. besides, cat-haters aren't worth the air it takes to keep them alive. i'd get an autopsy done by a vet & if the cat died of strangulation, get the woman charged for animal cruelty. then get a divorce.
