I have provided 4 answers to your 4 questions, as follows:
Killing unbelievers:
Sura 9:123: "O ye who believe! fight the unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him."
Don't be friends with Jews or Christians:
Sura 5:51: "O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your allies and protectors: They are but allies and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust."
Kill disbelievers:
Sura 2:191. "And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have Turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith."
Permission for a Muslim man to beat his wife if she doesn't obey him:
Sura 4:34: “Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in their sleeping places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.”
The optional question needs to be answered separately.

1) why do muslims change their names? is it essential in Islam, or just a preference of some muslims?
Recommended yes but not essential. It helps a new Muslim acquire an Identity which is important.
2) are muslims required to learn Arabic?, cuz i tend to see a lot of non-English phrases by muslims on here...
I am a Muslim however i dont know much Arabic. I know how to read Arabic script. Arabic makes the Quran much easier to understand as it is a grassroots language.
3) do you view most as ignorant of your religion, or just misinformed? Cuz I don't hate anyone, nor do i regard you as terrorists, yet a lot of people tend to think that way of me because I'm non-muslim.
Both. because when one is misinformed under the illusion of hatred this breeds ignorance. Muslims have constantly come under fire not because of innocent misunderstanding but purposfull distortion to attain an agenda of scarring Islam and Muslims.
4) what exactly would be the penalty if a woman removed her headscarf (hijab I think they're called) in public?
In some muslim countries that is a Social Offense such as in Saudi Arabia. In other Muslim countries it is totally permissible such as in Turkey or Pakistan. Islam requires the body to be covered completly except the face. The law on the headscarf is subject to ruling by the Islamic Authority in that particular nation.
5) *optional question. what ticks you individually off most about people claiming to be Christian? and do you consider yourself as an individual a stereotyper of Christians?
The first part of this question is unclear. If someone were claiming to be Christian to scarr the image of that religion that would be dishonest and plain wrong. Islam would disagree with such deception. I do not consider mself a stereotyper of Christians.

I don't like how they act because it gives other muslims a bad name.. but on tv they do well i think they portray a lot of the bad things such as the bombs and stuff.. but never show the good things... 4) Hmm about the headpices well I never had to wear one so I don't really know.. but In those Middle eastern countries I think they would get lashed?? just a thought.. I don't think they could show any part of their bodies even eyes!! 5) I don't care if anyone is a Christian or not or what ever type of other religion they are -- I view or try to view everyone as being the same.. we are all humans after all..i just hate hypocrites and people who try to force others to believe things

1) We dont change our names.. we even use english names..
2) well, there not really REQUIRED but its preferred since the Quran is in Arabic. But its unnessecary as long as they can atleast know a few basic phrases and suras (chapters) of the quran.
3) well someone misinformed is ignorant. and basically i did not think that until i saw what other people believe (have been told) about islam by western media mostly.. Loads of incredible lies that are actually stupid to believe! :S
4) Depends on the country. I live in UAE, a muslim country, women walk in thongs around here in some places!
In really really strict countries she is just basically told to put it back on, but these exist rarely.
5)nothing ticks me off! i have 3 christian best friends! and ofcourse im not a stereotyper of ANYTHIGN! (even though many others are.. to be honest) but ya...

1. preference (for ID I suppose)
2. nope, but since the scripture is in Arabic, if you want to get to the "real thing" its best to learn it than to rely on a translation.
3. Misinformed; not just non-muslims, but many, many muslims as well.
4. uhhhh it would depend on the government of the country she was in?
5. (I'm not sure what a stereotyper of christian is). I have met few people who have openly declared themselves to be christian, and I totally respect them. It seems shameful to be associated with religion these days... most "Christians" I know say they're in "spritual limbo." And I find that very sad.

1) just a preference
2)It's good to read from it's origin you know ;)
3) I think both! If someone is ignorant she/he can make some research from the issue's original sources, not from only biased media or magazines and she/he won't be misinformed anymore! It's up to the person.
4) Penalty? It's only in God's eye, we cannot know nor punish anyone for that!
Thanks again for the questions, it's good to see some serious ones!
Be blessed

1) Just preference
2) The original Qur'an is written in Arabic and it is more holy than translated versions, so most Muslims opt to learn Arabic.
3) Both
4) Its optional whether to wear a hijab or to not wear a hijab.

May the please, blessings and mercy of God be upon you
1) Its only a preference of some of those who convert, it is only obligatory lets say if your name is "de la cruz" meaning of the cross.
2) You are only required to know how to pray in Arabic, although it is beneficial if you know how to read it, so you can read from the Qu'ran, rather than from someone's translation of it . (for me I can read it phonetically but I have no comprehension so I read multiple translations)
3) Some are ignorant, most are misinformed
4) Depends where she is, in Saudi for example the Religious Police will ask her to put it back on, other places such as Pakistan where my parents are from it isn't obligatory. In America its your choice.
5) No, I don't stereotype Christians, I think I feel sorry for those Christians who think we don't worship God, (whom they refer to as the 'Father').
Otherwise, I have many Christian friends, and they are good people.
Peace Be With You

In Africa, 6 million muslims convert to Christianity every year. English Translation here.
"In every hour, 667 Muslims convert to Christianity. Everyday, 16,000 Muslims convert to Christianity. Ever year, 6 million Muslims convert to Christianity. These numbers are very large indeed".
