I know Tony Stewart stated that he thought that it should be left at 10, but to what point does NASCAR stop increasing the number.

Is it going to be 15 next year, then 20?

Well the race to the chase has been SUMMARIZED as the first 26 races or now 24 races, I think as NASCAR fans we are smart enough that we don't need to break it down and down and down. But thanks anyways.

No actually it was changed because that is about where the 400 point cut off has fallen the past 2 years. NASCAR will do anything that they think might improve ratings.

rubbin' is racin' !

First of all, the Race to the Chase is something ENTIRELY different from the Chase. The Chase for the Nextel Cup is races 27-36. The Race to the Chase is races 17-26 (Loudon #1, Pepsi 400, Chicagoland, Indy, Pocono #2, the Glen, Michigan 2, Bristol 2, California 2 and Richmond 2). The Race to the Chase is something NASCAR started making popular, because it's do-or-die time. More hype.

Now, Stewart missing the Chase had a bit to do with expanding the Chase to twelve (since he was the reigning champ). As does Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr missing it in 2005. But, NASCAR was also looking for it to get more exciting. The other Chase format was not doing what they had hoped. Therefore, they expanded the field and changed the point structure for the Chase. But, NASCAR is going to keep playing with the Chase until their ratings go up and stay up. Top-15? Not going to happen. A provisional for the reigning champ or win-leader? Maybe. More point restructuring in the future? Most likely.

I like the old rules some what better. In my world the perfect scenario would be 10 drivers, and 11th gets the $1 Million Dollar bonus and then you get 5 points for a pole and the races arent categorized by who wins the most races as the guys who are really consistent will get shuffled to the back of the field and you don't deserve a championship if you just lucked out and happened to win a few races so that means all 26 drivers who win the first 26 races are in the chase and it gets narrowed down further by the same driver winning more hten one race and whos already in there. I think thast kind of stupid. I think that in a few years it will go back down to 10 but it didn't help that Jr. Stewart or Gordon didnt make it in the past few years. Things happen and its not all about luck.

NASCAR has played with the 12 car chase since the chase started. But the past 2 chases have had 2 or 3 cars outside the chase that had the points to be in the chase.
Changing for Tony or Junior or Jeff no this was not done for them, but for the fans.Pesonnally the chase blows,I do not like it,then I do not like provisionals nor the top 35 owner points free ride either.
I pay my money to see the best 43 drivers race and the chase is a game like the playoffs. If you have confidance in your point system the chase is not needed.
That's all I have to say about that.

I think it was a combination of Tony Stewart not making it this year along with Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr last year. I also think Tony's strong showing in the last 10 races showed that the Chase had some problems. As far as Tony whining, I'm pretty sure not once last year did he whine, he said from Richmond on that he didn't deserve to make it into the chase. And before they made it so 12 drivers could get it he said it wasn't a good idea to change the numbers of drivers in it. So know what you are talking about before you say it

various motives why all 40 3 who qualify could desire to race interior the chase: The race for the chase could desire to be achieved interior the comparable situations that the universal season racing is achieved, i.e. comparable form of lesser experienced drivers. Sponsors should not be penalized with loss of exposure because of the fact they chosen the incorrect motor vehicle on the beginning up of the season. Drivers all earn paychecks at those races, even final place finishers. decrease the payout of the smaller communities like that and NASCAR may well be much greater lopsided than that's now, because of the fact the smaller communities might have even much less study and progression $. useful it rather is with regard to the money. some individuals act as though that's misguided. are not ALL expert activities once you get right down to brass tacks? as a procedures because of the fact the standards are worried, chase drivers are already set different than for the the remainder of the sphere: "beginning this season, the 4 hundred-element cutoff is eradicated and the acceptable 12 drivers interior the standards after Race 26 will qualify for the Chase. All 12 drivers could have their element totals re-set to 5,000; each and each will then obtain a 10-element bonus for each race victory they had for the duration of the 1st 26 races." wish that enables. for added information on the standards device, see right here link.

I think it played a part in it, as did the year before when the 2 most popular drivers were on the outside looking in. I think the strong showing by Stewart in the races involved in the chase played a part in it as well. I dont think anyone cried about it long enough for Nascar to care, they may have just realized that in regards to the chase more is better.

No. Had that been the case they would have gone to the Top 11 since Stewart was 11th. Carl Edwards and Stewart would have made the Chase had they taken 12 teams last year. Stewart was the top driver in the last 10 races last year and Edwards was the top driver in the last 10 races in 2005.

actually the way i took it was cause kahne almost didn't make the chase last year and that would of made nascar look horrible considering he had 5 of his 6 wins before the chase began and a decient amount of top 10's and top 15's, and they also put the extra points for drivers like kahne when he wins this year, he'll get more points for a win cause they said if they would of done that last year, kahne would of led the chase when it started last year.

Well,NASCAR did say the system would probably need some "tweaking".In the last 2 years, 3 of the best and most popular guys in the series didn't make it in.That's not good for business, whether they were your favorite drivers or not.
