i think you should wait a little, and then tell him that you really liked her.

Although this is a "sticky" situation, I would do the following:
1. Explain to my friend that I have feelings for the girl that he is interested in.
2. Tactfully explain that the girl has been writing to you and that you want to date her.
If your friend can read between the lines, I think he will realize that the two of you have already started a relationship and he will back off. If not, then I suggest that you tell him after you have gone out with the girl, your intentions with her. Maybe, she is not really your type. You won't know until you go out with her at least once. If she is not your type, then during the first date, begin to talk about the qualities of your friend and steer her towards him. Your friend will appreciate it. If you really like her, then let nature take its course. Then arrange a meeting with your friend and tell him about your intentions with the girl. A good friend knows when to back down.
I hope this helps.

You're a guy right? Us guys can talk to our friends about that kind of thing. Be honest with him and tell him that you were waiting for her. He'll understand, after all true friends always want to best for their friends. There is nothing wrong with what you want to do, but you do owe him an explanation. Another way you can do it, is to simply ask him why it did not work out for him. I bet if you act interested, he would even be willing to give you pointers on how to get her. He'll tell you what not to do, and even some good insight to help you hit it off. That's the way guys do it.
For any girls reading this, that's how we do it baby!! No player hatin', no cock blocking!

I would ask her out. If he gets mad over something like this he isn't much of a friend. Did he know you were interested in her also when he asked her out? If you feel that this would make your friend upset, tell him that you are planning to ask the girl out and you hope that he understands, but that you have been interested in her for awhile. Good luck..

Well if he asked her out after he found out you liked her, there's no reason you shouldn't do the same thing to him. Sounds like he doesn't like her that much; just wants to get her before you can. It was pretty mean of him to do that in the first place, and I don't think he'll be too heartbroken. Go for it and good luck!

true friends are hard to come by so i would advice to let this girl slide and wait until someone else comes along.why risk a friendship over a girl who you may end up losing in the long run. if you wait you would have retained your friendship and gained a new friend

The question is why do you want to maintain a friendship with someone who is considered as a loser in your book?
