Representative Pete Stark of California revealed himself as a nontheistic Unitarian Universalist, apparently the first member of the United States Congress to ever publicly acknowledge the lack of a god belief. What, if anything, does his announcement mean to you?

Hello, Paladin:

About 30 years ago I heard a poll where 98 % of our politicians claimed to believe in God. I felt that that 2 % were honest enough to risk their career, and I would trust them.

When our forefathers were forming the Constitution, each state was struggling to make their State religion rule the U.S.--they had not learned their lessons from religious/state persecution in Europe.

Thanks to God, the Unitarian, Thomas Jefferson came to the rescue. He often said he was not opposed to religion, but was apposed to what religion has done--suppose that is why he studied the Koran, too. Then he wrote what is today known as the Jefferson Bible. It reduced Jesus to a philosopher state, and took all the miracles out of the New Testament as well as statements by God endorsing Him, such as: This is My beloved Son, hear him. On Television today you hear Evanelicals trying to make Jefferson into a Pat Robertson. I don't think so!

Yes, the honest politician will get my vote.

Blessings, One-Way

P.S.: break the hidden "code" in the only part of the Bible that says you can not understand it until the end of the days:

Baseless very own assaults are the gadget of the desperate. Rep. Stark, a central authority genuine, can spew this crap and the libs look after him using fact he has the spectacular to declare despite the fact that he needs. Rush Limbaugh, a private citizen, tells the reality with reference to the SCHIP growth and libs call for his head using fact he's attacking babies. What does that inform you approximately on the instant's liberals? Totalitarians? particular. Propagandists? particular. Cheers.

One down, 434 to go. Unitarian Universalism is the One True Religion, and as soon as the Baptists, Hindus, Jains, Orthodox Jews, Muslims, Zoroasters, Roman Catholics, Presbyterians and Sikhs realize it, the sooner we will have world peace.

At last! A politician who is somewhat honest, and isn't afraid of the religious right. I'm not going to assume the tide is turning, because Christians will turn up in droves to vote him out of office for that simple reason, but it still is nice to see, if only for one brief moment.

Most of the rest of the Congress members have also lied about their religious beliefs.

it's his business.

Edit: People, get over it. He's from the east bay (SF bay area) - think Ron Dellums or Barbara Lee - he's got a lot of very progressive company in this area. It's not like some clown from Kansas said it.

That is great, but the real test will be to see if he gets reelected. I think atheists are still where blacks were about 100 years ago in terms of acceptence of our rights.

Good. Maybe the tide is turning and in the future religion and politics will truly be separate.
