I've been twice in NY, after travelling over and over to Florida, my laughing place. I was writing a musical that was never produced (better say yet), and the producer called me to sign the contracts. The opening of the play was all written in a Central Park gazebo, in a glorious Autumn sunset. NY is like Rio, you can ride a bus or a subway and get to your destination within minutes. Very different from Miami, where you have to ride miles to buy matches. I would use the term "user friendly". The cultural options are huge! We cariocas (born in Rio) are much alike New Yorkers, only we are much more talkative. I watched 13 plays on and off Broadway, visited the Mme Tussaud's Museum, Barnes and Nobles, watched a 3-D movie with the Simpsons at IMax, bought a lot of books, CDs, DVDs, tourist-like T-shirts etc. I had been one year before in NY 20 days before the dreadful Twin Towers event. I watched in front of my TV set in Copacabana, and it was like I was there. I felt like someone had stolen part of my past, something I had acquired, culturally speaking. I stood then at Pennsylvania Hotel, just because of the Glenn Miller song. I got friends in NY I call brothers. They come down almost every year to enjoy Carnaval.
