If I have run out of cocoa powder for a cake that I am making is there a substitution that I can use??? I need 1-1/2 cups cocoa powder, I have 1/2 cups---can I use semisweet chocolate melted or chcolate syrup???? HELP!??!

3 tbsp of cocoa + 1 tbsp fat = 1 oz unsweetened baking chocolate.

Hence, for every 3 tbsp of cocoa powder, use 1 oz unsweetened chocolate blocks, and 1 tbsp LESS butter.

Melt the chocolate and add to the butter you'll be beating.

Well, cocoa powder is unsweetened, so if you use the other chocolate, you would have to drop the amount of sugar and liquid. Look up a substitute for cocoa powder and see what you find.

We have a same problem but I mix cocoa powder with hot chocolate powder. The taste is very nice. You should try to put hot chocolate powder.
