I presume you're referring to metaphysical matters, rather than the prosaic "I think it'll hurt if I stick my hand in the toaster" belief?

Or societal 'beliefs' such as that a degree of cooperation is useful, or that money is actually 'worth' something. Or their counter, nihilism?

And, on that basis, of course the answer is that ideally we shouldn't 'believe', we should rather 'know'. But that raises the question as to whether 'knowledge' is possible or not. I guess Zen Buddhists think it is, as do some other Eastern religions. Whereas Christians might know God but cannot Know him, since that would require God's own omniscience.

Ultimately it can be argued that the ability to mentally order the world around us is an advantage. And I guess all of the above categories of belief are ways of doing just this. From an understanding of how the physical world works to the metaphysical.

So although there is no reason at all why we should believe, we do. Because we're made that way.

Because if people didn't believe in Christopher Columbus or that planes fly or the Earth revolves around the Sun, you would consider them ill informed, or absolutely pre-historic and maybe stupid.

We have thousands of years of history in the Bible and the testamonies of millions and millions and millions of people that lived before us in regular history books.

Why would we think they were wrong? We live in the 21st century and have knowledge from others before us. I would think I would learn from them and make myself better. I would imagine if I was really intellegent and in touch with the universe; I would find a nice night, lay down a blanket, lay on my back on the ground, and look up, and watch the Earth spin. I would see comets and lights and feel the awsomeness of the Universe. If I was looking for that Creator of everything I saw, I would look in the history book called, The Bible. If I believe that gravity would keep me on the ground and not allow me to fly off of the planet that I was laying on, how can I not believe in a God that created it and me.

"I am but space dust but born with a heart and Baptized with a soul but I will return to dust. Only Jesus will call us up from that dust and take up our soul to be with him (someplace) in the presence of God's face for all of eternity." (C) HW 2007

Wow! Blessings on you and may the warmth of the Sun that can fry you, warm you and never burn you.

PS. Know that the one we may or may not believe in has placed the Sun at a point that we are not vaporized. (for now)

Would you sell one of your eyes for 10 million dollars?
You would have one eye left to see from would you sell that one eye?

What if you were given a glass eye to replace the missing eye and it would look just like the other one, you just won't be able to see from it.

What if they wanted a matching pair of eyes and offered you 250 million for both eyes. Would you sell both your eyes for that much money?

If you say yea, for that much money, sure. Okay then what would you do with all that money? See the world? Your blind!

Your eyes are the windows to your soul and if the windows to your soul are not worth that much money then what is your soul worth? You soul is what last and is it worth that little that you would cast it away so easily?

Are you a good person? What a question, most of us believe that we are good people because we can look around and find someone that is far worse than we are. We can always point to the things that we think make us a good person.

But how good are we really? Dare we take this test and look at ourselves and see if we really are good? Hmmm.

If you are willing try this and see just how good a person you are.

The Good Person Test.

How will you do? Pass or fail?

Have you ever told a lie?
Doesn't matter how big or small, just a lie.
What does that make you? Before answering think about this, if I told you a lie what would you call me? A liar?

Have you ever stolen anything? Cost doesn't matter, a piece of gum, failed to give back an ink pen that you borrowed, anything.
What does that make you?

Jesus said, "You know the saying of old, you shall not commit adultery but I say that if look at someone to lust after them you have committed adultery in your heart.
Have you ever lusted?

Jesus said that hate is equal to murder.
Have you ever hated anyone?

See one day we all are going to stand before a Holy God on Judgment Day and he is going to judge us based on His Holy Law, the Ten Commandments. These are just 4 of them and how did you do? Guilty? I have broken all of these and more, what about you? How well will you do on Judgment Day?

If we break just one point of God's Law we are guilty of breaking all the law and Gods Wrath abides upon us all. Based on God's Law we are all guilty and all are deserving of punishment. But there is an out for us.

Jesus paid the price for each one of us, took on himself God's Wrath so we wouldn't have to face it on our own. Jesus was beaten, battered, bleed and died so we wouldn't have to face God's Wrath. He rose again so that we would life in his presence. Our crimes, His payment.

The real question is where will you stand on Judgment Day. Pay yourself or have it paid for you. Think about it.

To "believe" is to live in the world dream. To wake up is to know truth.

ppl need something to believe in if they are having a hard time with anything...i personally don't need saving but i know others do, it is sad they need one thing to keep them going, and god is their motive, they need him for some reason, if you ask me i think is is fantastic that a faint idea can keep a man doing his job to provide for his family. i am atheist, but the idea fascinates me.
