It is rather common for a pup to become attached and it will stay like this for awhile as it is natural. Though try leaving your pup alone for a hour or so. Do you have any other pets that it could be with? This is a great way for your pup to grow close to another pet in your household so it is not so lonesome when you are not there. Try letting your pup stay with other people, meaning if you have more than one family member let the pup stay with them that night or even invite friends over and let them be with the dog most of their stay. This helped when my puppy became so attached to me she fell very sick when I left my house to go somewhere. She eventually grew out of this as I tryed these things mentioned above.

~Hope this Helps~ =)

At my house we call our dog the brown tumor.... LOL but serously... if you have a young pup this is normal. They stay close to their parents, as they get older they venture farther and farther from their parents.

At 9 months you could have a little bit of a problem. What kind of dog do you have? I have noticed that small dogs tend to be more attached to their people than larger breeds... not all but some.

If I was going to teach my dog independance I would start by making sure there were LOTS of safe toys for him to play with. I would also invest in an exersise pen (an xpen in most books). This is an enclosure that is portable and can be set up inside the house to contain your pup. Put all the toys inside and put him in.

This could cause him to cry and whine.... if that is the case start slowly just a few seconds at a time.... you don't want to scare him... just give him a safe place to play while you are doing what life makes you do.

If confining him isn't a option for what ever reason you might try a Kong. It is a wonderful chew toy that can keep even the big dogs busy for hours. Once the pup is distracted you can get about your life while the pup dose something on his own, even the kong in the x pen would help the whining (if you have any).

Personaly, I would just about kill to have a dog that would follow me around like that... My dog just trys to sit on me every time sit somewhere.... If my dog looked up to me like yours dose I would get a whole lot more training done......

best of luck

Having a dog or a puppy is just like raising a kid. At first they will really seek for your attention. If you cant have that much time to spend with him try to get a dog trainer so that your pup will be obedient to stay or lay down on your command somehow.

I would do what I'd do similarly with a small child with separation anxiety: create a small movable bed with a favorite toy and something that smells of YOU. Put him in the bed and give him lots of attention for staying there. When he leaves to join you COMPLETELY ignore him for a few minutes as you work (no matter how much he demands your attention). When YOU choose to, in a few minutes, go over to the bed and praise him for being there. Emphasize "Nice bed," I like you nice bed..." As you walk away & he joins you again repeat the same thing, IGNORING for longer than before, then on your terms without eye contact (as if you assume he's in the bed), go to the bed & praise him for being there. When he leans to stay there as you work, praise him for staying in the bed & ignore him everytime he moves from there. This worked beautifully for me once.

Happy puppy!
