It differs from relationship to relationship, but usually, the first date doesn't usually lead to first base. In a sense, the first date is like the job interview: it tells the girl if she WANTS to kiss you.
The second date is when you get the job.. obviously, she liked you enough to go out with you a second time; and, as a result, this is also the date where you wanna kiss her.
Granted, there are always exceptions to rules - this is where you have to analyze signals the girl gives off. I'm not going to go into too much detail about what these "signals" entail; but simply put, if the girl wants to kiss you, she'll make it pretty well known.
If she doesn't signal for you to kiss her, or if you're unsure about whether or not she wants the kiss, DO NOT go for it.
-FIrst dates is rarely the night you get to kiss. If you're unsure, it's better to wait until the next date to kiss her (than to have her break up with you for moving to fast and never getting the chance to kiss her).

Many do, but I think it can be more special if you wait a little while first. It shows that a kiss means something to you and makes it sweeter when you do because you'll have had time to develop a deeper relationship with each other.

On a first date a peck on the lips and a hug is the right thing. It's sweet & it leaves you with the anticipation of still having the first " real" kiss.
