Does the past ever reoccur in your mind even though one gives it over to the Lord and surrendered the bad thoughts to Him? Is it also true that not everything gets resolved in this life even though we may want deliverance? Is it also true that some thing we may never know the "why" to until we get to Heaven? This question has been on my mind so I thought I would post this.

Sure, it happens to all of us. Even Paul, great Apostle that he was, had a "thorn in the side" that never healed. We don't know what it was, perhaps some sin, perhaps literally a thorn stuck in his side. But it was with him until he died, and it was bad enough that he actually complained about it.

But we all have thoughts of the past. When I begin to replay those old memories, I try to bring the past up to the present so that I can completely remember it ... otherwise I might get stuck again in that old habit. If I don't remember how the Word transformed me from that, I'll go right back into that bad sort of thinking :)

1- Of course, the past frequently passes through our minds over and over again, it is called guilt. The good news is that even though it is hard for us to forgive ourselves, God forgives us easily when we really mean it and then never thinks about it again.

2- Sometimes things don't get resolved as we think they should. What we consider resolved, God may have a purpose for. Everything is in his time. If you have received Jesus into your life and repented and received forgiveness, that doesn't automatically mean that you receive a life without obstacles. Sometimes our obstacles are character builders for us to face. Sometimes God uses are experiences through us to help another.

3- Many things we will not know until we get to heaven. Including the answers to your question #2. Then we will look at Christ and say, "Oh, so that is why you didn't let that problem go away" or something similar to that.

If something you turned over to God in sincere prayer is reoccuring (annoying as that it) simple means there is more to be learned on that issue. 99% of people will not resolve everything is this lifetime because they do not put forth the effort.

If you use your energy for 70% career/wealth 20% friends/ family and 10% spiritial advancement.........then you will resolve 10% of your issues.

Growing up in our society which often reserves 2 hours a week for spiritual consideration......we don't have ideal examples.......BUT spend 75% of your energy toward spritiaul advancement.......and you will change your life.

And finally......you can know the WHY now. Just trust yourself and accept the thoughts. When they come.......don't push them away in fear and disgust. Almost accept them to the point that you tell yourself. "yeah, ok i"m gonna act on them" "do it again or actually try that" and at that point you'll laugh at how silly they actually are. Meaningless. Powerless.

I believe that forgiveness is a process, not an event.

Certain situations can trigger the past. That's normal and quite natural. Release it to God again. In time, you'll remember less often, or it will hurt less.

I also believe that there are some things we won't know till heaven. God never answered Job. We know why he suffered, but Job died not knowing. We never know what kind of influence we have in the way we deal with tragedy.

I think the job of this life is not to get resolution with the people in our lives. That's not always possible because of their free will. Our job is to be reconciled to God, and He will reconcile us to each other. Takes the pressure off that way. ;o)
