Use a system floppy disk for win 2000 or for windows millennium, boot the computer from the floppy disk and select CD ROM support when the floppy has finished loading and you have the A: prompt then type format c: that will do the job. Then find the drive letter of your CD ROM with the win 2000 CD in, and type setup and follow the instructions from there

Get nearly any boot disk with formatting options. DOS will even work. I suggest using win 2000 to create the boot disk. Then, restart the computer with the boot disk in place. It should load instead of the operating system. Then format the hard-drive.

Good luck! Back up any important information FIRST.

I gotta ask why you would want to do this? Most people don't understand that this is a long time-consuming process and you wind up losing lots of stuff you didn't realize, like settings. I think there's an epidemic going around - everyone wants to "wipe and reload" like it's playing on MySpace or something.

The only time you need to reformat and reinstall is if you have unrecoverable corruption of the operating system. Then you need the original disks that came with the computer for starters.

Do this before you go thru the exercise and see if it helps whatever problem you are trying to solve:

1. AVG anti-virus - download and run this program and delete any viruses it detects.
2. Download and run Ad-Aware SE
3. Download and run Spybot Search & Destrtoy
4. Download and run Microsoft Windows Defender
5. Start>All Programs>Accessories>Disk Cleanup
Empty the recycle bin
6. Start>All Programs>Accessories>Disk Degragmenter
