do your best as a Muslim to show a positive image of Muslims.
if someone aggravates you or angers you DO NOT act like a stereotypical Muslim and fight back (not physically) and start yelling Arabic words.
In my youth group we played out skits on how Muslims stereotypically act and how they should act.
There was a hadith from the prophet that was about when you get angry. If some one makes you angry the first thing you should do is find a place to sit and relax. Because you know how like at school if you see some people who get angry at each other at the lunch tables the first thing they do is get up and start yelling. So the prophet (pbuh) said step back, sit down and take a deep breath.
please brother (I'm guessing your a guy)
you have to always act on your best behavior
because that's the right thing to d AND because you are Muslim..
and since Muslims are targeted today you have to act extra good and show that Islam is positive and not evil.
Basically to protect Islam be a Muslim..a peaceful true Muslim who follows Islam as best as he/she can.
God Bless

Becoming a good anything, when so becoming isn't the most popular of things to become in your community, isn't easy.
And when you are pretty well along your way to being good at it, your comunity's experts will mock you for it.
They will call you obsessive, and probably even compulsive, as if it were bad to do so.
The best way to become a good pratctitioner of things Islamic, is to not just read the Quran, but to search through it for suggestions of how to improve your life, and then, to incoroporate those suggestions into your life, and by asking questions, but not just plain trusting any mortal's answers.

Just a few points; Respect the elders of the other religions, to whom supplications are made; Be mindful of Allah at all the moments- that is the Taqwa. Then you shall deserve His Guidance in all actions. Always be grateful to the Lord-Allah. Be of service to your neighbor, whatever be his religion. Keep your relations dear and loved.

I know what you mean.
I want to become a good sea pirate,
but I live hours away from the ocean.
Living inland far from water is a bad environment,
if I want to be a good sea pirate.
I suppose, if I want to be a good sea pirate,
I should consider relocating to a new environment,
one more conducive to sea piracy,
an environment where I will be among those like myself,
others who wish to be excellent sea pirates,
and those who are as I wish to be, top sea pirates,
who can act as teachers to teach me the sea pirate's ways.
Do you think something like that might work for you?

Commit to Quran,
believe in God, the last day and do good deeds. This is the minimum. Be honest when dealing with people, encourage righteousness and discourage sins, don't cheat or manipulate others. Basically, be someone who society benefits from.
Finally, pray to God and donate money.
Read the quran, commit to what it says.

What environment exactly and what is it you find hard to follow. Its pretty simple for me. Pray 5 times a day, eat halal food, follow the 5 pillars, dress modestly, read the Quran. Whats hard about that in any environment?

Don't listen to people telling you to convert to Christianity (or any other religion). It sounds like you are happy being Muslim and simply want to do a better "job" with it.
To be honest, I don't know much about your religion. However, I would imagine that the best way to learn to become a better Muslim would be to speak about your concerns with trusted members or leaders of your particular Mosque.
Good luck!
