Definately NOT. My aunt did it and her previously beautiful hair is now wiry and frizzy. She loves it but I don't. AT ALL. And it limits you to styles if you ever change your mind about it.

I love wavy hair. I know everyone likes the other one =) it's always the case. well, I know what a pain it is to straighten every day because i have to make it curly well not everyday but most of the time. But i don't recommend putting that much chemical on the hair to change it for ever. U can use all kinds of products to straighten u'r hair for a month or maybe more with less damage. I know it feels good not having to fix u'r hair everyday but at the same time u don't want to keep u'r hair healthy and beautiful. so go u'r salon and ask them about it. The stuff that u can buy at a beauty shop won't work for a long time so it's better that u use some professional help. I just don't like all the chemicals that will be used. hair doesn't look healthy after a while and u have to actually use more stuff to make it shiny and healthy. If u do decide to make a permanent change ask them about all the risks and side effects on u'r hair so u won't be surprised later on. hope this helps.
p.s do some research on the web about products and methods before going to a salon .

Permanently straightening your hair can be bad, because your hair is basically getting soaked in chemicals before the salonist straightens it. However it's helpful if you don't want to spend an hour straightening your wavy hair every day.
I recommend blow-drying right after you wash your hair, so it's not as wavy as when you let it air-dry. Then in the morning or before you go out, straighten your hair with a normal hair-straighteners (Sears sells good ones for about $20 to $30). There are also shampoos that actually help your hair straighten; you can look this up on Yahoo! Search.
Hope I helped! But it's up to you whether you wish to permanently straighten your hair or not.

I have quite coarse hair and need to straighten my hair every so often. I have my stylist use opti-smooth. It's a "smoothing" product rather than straightening the hair. It softens the hair shaft and allows your hair to be like hair you've never had before. It's smooth, shiny, and soft. It takes a few hours to do. It costs the same as any other chemical treatment, although the prices vary between salons and the amount to use. So call around and ask if your local salons use Opti-smooth. Its a wonder product, i'm telling you.

I've seen gorgeous results and horrific results. Best advice is make sure your stylist has done it many times before and has been successful. If you're not shy about it, when you see someone that's got really nice hair, ask them where they have it done. You're hair should last at least one day after straightening it....but straightening can cause breakage and drying..or worse! Be careful!

The good thing about the permanent straightening of the hair is that you are more capable of designing it however you like. The bad thing however, is that you have to take good care of your perm to prevent damage (especially breakage). Keep that in mind before you make your choice!

I have known people who have done it. I say go for it! Just make sure you have a professional do it, and you may not be able to do it if you have colored your hair recently, or color it often.
You will probably still have to straighten it daily, it just wont be as labor intensive as it is now. All else fails, it will grow back out!
Good luck!

DO IT! You have to try something to know what works for you. I have a friend who had it done and it look way better.
Pros - You'll never have to straighten your hair and you'll have so much extra time.
Cons - The Cost :)

BAD idea. It'll screw up the hair you have permanently and in a few years when you're tired of it you'll have to chop it off to get the wavy back.
