Well my car has broken down and i live out of town about 40 min. What i am wondering is-well my car is basically a right off the damge is going to cost more than it's even worth and more then what i payed for the stupid thing.Anyways the only other vehicle i can buy right now is a truck-and it has the seating only in the front for three. So my son is only 8mos-i know he is supposed to face backwards until he's one right?Well what do i do?Is he able to go in the truck or is this bad?I personally think it's not okay or legal but my b/f does think it's okay -like if this is all you have to drive sort of thing. So if you know how this works please let me know what to do????thank you so much.A concerned mom.

As long as the child is in the appropriate seat it is OK to be in the front seat of a Pick-up that only has the one bench. As mentioned place the seat rear facing in the middle position with the lap belt tight around baby seat.

There is a reason that it is dodgy to put a rear facing child seat on a front car seat. This is that the air bag will hit the child seat and through it backwards because it is lighter and closer to the dashboard than an adult torso in the case of an accident.
If the vehicle does not have airbags, then this is not an issue, however, you should consult the local laws as to whether this is legal.
Have you considered bolting the child seat to the floor of the interior (for example, behind the front seats, not the footwell)?

"Kiffin" is basically correct. A good rearward facing child seat properly buckled in is acceptable, and legal in a pick up truck with only one seat. Since most of these type of seats have a back that will fold forward you may, for your own peace of mind, want to find a way to secure it permanently in an upright position so it won't fold over in the rare chance that you are in an accident.

You need a rearfacing child seat that will be buckled into the center section of the front seat. Your boyfriend is DEAD WRONG; you MUST have the seat that is age-appropriate for the child or the driver will get a stiff fine and possibly even some points on his/her license.

Please contact your local law enforcement agency concerning laws in your area. Personally I would seek a more knowledgeable person than your "boyfriend" when it came to issues concerning my children....but, that is only my opinion.
