Because he has known you since the day you were born, no matter how old you get you will always be his baby and he wants the very best for you. It may seem overbearing and annoying, but he wants the man you may spend you life with and the father of your grandchildren to be as perfect as he sees his little girl. He really does want the best for you, sometime, try asking him what he thinks the perfect guy for you would be. Your opinions may not be that far apart. You might REALLY go out on a limb and date a guy your dad likes, it could work out!

In the case of my husband, we have two daughters and one of them is 15 and dating. I was 15 when i met her father and he remembers all the things we did, hehehehe, and it terrifies him. He was 21 and man was i jail bait. It is easy to say that NOW we are married and have worked hard but back then it was my mom and dad sweating it. Parents have the fortune of 20/20 and remembering what it was like to be young and carefree. We also have to live with the mistakes and choices we made from those carefree days. It is painful to see your child hurting and making bad choices, so as a parent and a father you want to spare your baby girl from it if you can. But we tend to overprotect and defeat our entire purpose. So that is where the wives have to break out the pictures and love letters and such and remind all those crazy fathers that part of loving is letting go and then picking up the pieces and holding your baby girl tight when she cries. Try to go easy on your dad and know you are loved.

Could you possibly mean why do dads have to approve of the guys you date? Dads were once young boys and know how young boys think just by talking to them. No dad wants to take the chance of having their daughter mistreated by some guy, which is why they must approve of them before letting you go out with a boy.

Well, think about it this way. Your parents have been taking care of you for how long now? They are just worried that the guy is not "safe" or right for you because you are a girl, and 3 out of 4 girls get raped. Over all, what im trying to say is, that they are trying to protect you, even if it is a stupid and embarassing way.

coz dads can be over-protective when it comes to their girls.

they want the best for us girls and they dont want any punk to hurt us in any way. its just a way for them to show their love, by being protective...because they care so much.

Because as parents, no one is good enough for our children. You'll understand when you have your own family. Take care sweetie.
