Due to Vista still being new, some manufacturers have not had patches or updates for there products ready when Vista came out. It is possible that if you go to the manufacturer's web site, you may be able to get an update or a patch for Vista. Just because it says it is nt compatible, does not mean it will not work. Also, just like XP, Vista has the capability to run programs as previous windows versions. I would search for the patch first in order to get through the install.
Good Luck.

I have a friend who did the same thing. He went out and bought a new Nero that is compatible with Vista.
