Your recruiter almost certainly lied about some things - but this isn't one of them.
Hopefully your son will be stateside long enough to take advantage of the benefits.

No, the recruiter did not lie. He will qualify for the GI bill after he successfully completes boot camp at MCRD. Do a search engine on "montgomery GI bill" and you should be able to find all the info you need. The info should also be on the his paperwork they gave him when he signed up as that would be part of the contract of service.

My son went into the delayed entry program and will be active duty after he graduates high school and goes off to boot camp. I didn't believe it but I know for active duty it's 100%. Have you checked www.MARINES.com to see if it shows on that site? My friend's husband who is Enlisted Navy (who the Marines are part of) got his Bachelors while enlisted and now will be become a Naval Officer in a few months. The military does have a lot of perks if you take the opportunity to use them.

The recruiter did not lie. There is an education office on every base. Your son can get you the info through this office.

Why aren't you talking to the recruiter? There needs to be a white paper somewhere with this information on it.

Probably not about this, although they are infamous for their little white lies that disappear as soon as the person has enlisted.
