I think I would thank you rather than freak out on you.

I would think so. If the kid needed help & no one was there, it wouldn't be wrong to help them up. Don't hug them, or take them anywhere, or anything like that. If it was one of my kids & you just picked them up & seen if they were OK, then I would thank you, not freak out on you. But some people have maybe had bad experiences with someone helping there kid before or something & so they might get upset if you touched there kid at all. You can't be to careful anymore, a lot of really awful things go on now. Being a parent is a very hard thing, you just do the best you can & hope that is enough.

Some people just do not want other people touching or interferring with their children lives, even if you were trying to be helpful. I would think she would of been very appreciative and even thanked you for being so caring, but she obviously was more concerned about a stranger touching her child, and that is probably why she freaked out on you. It may have made her feel inadequate as a mom too, that she was not there to help her daughter or son when they fell, and so she over-reacted emotionally and took it out on you.
I think that in general we need to be careful about picking up or touching other people's children unless you actually know them and they know you. I think it would of been okay to go over and ask the little girl if she was okay and try to console her verbally, but maybe just stay there with her until the mom came back to get them. I love children and my natural instincts are just to go and help and hug and pick up the child to console them--so I totally see why you did it. I think it would of been hard for me NOT to have done what you did so don't feel bad---you are just a very caring person. Mom should of been grateful.

Oh I think mom overreacted. I would and have helped up a little one and gave them a little hug and asked if they were alright. Asked them where mommy or daddy was. Checked for boo boo's on knees. The parents were usually greatful that someone cared enough to check on their child. Most of the time the little one was running ahead of the parents and fell. I'm mom to 3 and have had it happen to my little ones too. It's natural instinct I believe to comfort a child.

I would certainly have thanked you!!!
I can't imagine seeing a child fall and start crying and then just keep on walking by and step over them...I would think that was rude...
You did the right thing. I think it's kinda weird the Mom freaked out.

You are better off leaving them alone unless you make eye contact with someone in charge and maybe help for a second and then back off. You really should not touch other peoples kids.

i would never touch anyone's child. u just don't know how others would react.
we live in a sue happy country. lets say u picked up the child and hugged him and dropped him and he was injured the family can sue u for damages. lets say the mother comes from out of no where yelling "get off my child, pervert".

I would definately thank you. But, I can see in today's world how someone might panic at the sight of a stranger holding their child.
