Best case scenario? stress, over the counter stimulants, energy drinks, slight allergic reaction to food.
worst scenario? allergic reaction to medicine, specifically codeine, or any kind of penicillin.
With this reaction, it can continue to swell , until you can't breathe, death can result, within half an hour.
regardless, take some benadryl, relax, take a shower.
chill.

Any number of things can cause hives. Are you stressed, change perfume, deordant, shampoo, soap, new animal in the home.Eat something new.Be around anyone with the same thing? I myself just had a really bad rash all over my body. The doctor could not identify the cause of it.I had to get a script for prednisone. That will take the swelling down, also take some Benadryl for the itching.Good luck.

No one really knows what causes hives, it is a type of allergic reaction to something...there is no real way to get rid of them till there ready, but benadryl helps...My 5 yr old gets horrible horrible hives every time she drinks Juicy Juice.

My allergist says I am allergic to myself lol Mine aren't caused by foods or anything ingested. My body has an over reaction to the chemicals in my body. If I get stressed, anxious, or upset then bam I am covered in minutes and itch like there is no tomorrow. the go away in about 10-15 minutes. They are so annoying, but manageable. Try to avoid what causes them in you!

Good luck!

could be your shampoo & laundry soap -my dermatologist has me use unscented laundry detergent (purex is the most resonably priced.) and shampoo that is free of scent (ask your pharmacist to order it for you ) but its about $12 a bottle for 11 oz (I think its called free & clear)
keep your skin from becoming too dry by using a good moisturizer.
