Some people believe that the friends you choose have the same personality as you. By judging someone's friends, someone can tell who you are.

A common belief in some cultures is that you are only as good as the company you keep. If you have alot of dodgy friends, you would possibly be considered dodgy by association.

Simply put, birds of a feather flock together.

People tend to pick friends who have similar personalities, or personalities that don't clash with their own. Therefore, if I meet your friends I can probably discern reasonably what kind of person you are without even meeting you.

"You are judged by the company you keep"

People tend to associate with people that they have something in common with, so if I tell you who my friends are, you have something/ someone to judge me by. You can tell "who" I am or what I'm like, by the friends I have.

If I said that my best friend is someone like..... lets say, "George Bush" - would you want to be my friend? You would probably assume that I shared some of his characteristics, and you would either like me or dislike based on that alone.
