In my community, if you didn't serve in Iraq no one will talk to you. I've been deployed twice overseas, a year ironman tour in Korea on the DMZ, and 2 months in a combat zone in Oman Jordan. I was discharged for schizophrenia and no one in my hometown respects me. In fact I've had comments, people have spit in my yard, and someone even told me I should be overseas getting killed. This is luducris. People are so ignorant as to what veterans have really done and the real missions at hand. The only thing they say where you in Iraq? Guess what folks we are deployed to so many countries around the world that people have no idea whats going on.

Hey, I think I would leave that place in the dust! You don't deserve that type of treatment from anyone, let alone an entire community! Are they treating every other able bodied young person that way or is it just you? I don't wish to be rude, but you say you were discharged for schizophrenia, are you being treated for this, if not, I would suggest a trip to the nearest VA hospital to get medication for your illness or perhaps a different diagnosis.
No, I am not a Doctor, but I do know about your illness first hand.

Hello!
You know the truth God knows the truth about your life and you need not be concerned about proving it to others.
I respect the military and all who served they are heroes.
People do not realise the importance of having a good strong defence force it is through this that we enjoy our freedom within the homeland.
Without a strong military bullying countries would just come in and take over.
I think the worst thing that ever happened was for certain countries to stop compulsory military training people become soft and when situations arise people want to run and hide through fear bow down and be nice does not work with bullying nations.
These countries have small children in training and are taught from an early age how to become a suicide bomber,.
Watching a programme recently where a small girl stood in front of the class and said she wanted to become a suicide bomber they grow up with this mentality .
A nation needs to be prepared along with the people standing with them not against them.
People need to wake up!
Take care!

Ummm.... Oman and Jordan are two different countries that don't even border each other.

So, for a variety of reasons, I'm totally confused.

However, I read some of your other questions and saw that you're from Louisville. If you're able, why not consider moving to Hardin, Meade, or Bullitt Counties where it's very military friendly and no one cares WHERE you served.... everyone's just grateful you did.

I've been in, yet not been deployed. When people find out I served, their reactions are mixed. Some are proud of me, some look down on it.

Frankly the war so unpopular and people feel that they cannot get to the man responsible for it or get him to change his way. Even if they could, a trip to a black site is very possible. You however are a more accessible target and not as likely to cause as much harm and they turn on you cause it is more convenient.

Most civilians have no idea about what we do. You did the same job as those in Iraq and the same I do now, though I am stationed stateside. I have met people such as you have and when I asked them if they knew what I did, they had not the slightest clue. The civilian world is very much different from ours and only those that have been there can truly know what we put on the line, either in peacetime or in war.

I don't know where you live, but that sounds like a crock. Every veteran deserves respect for having served our country. It's too bad our present administration sends them off to wars which have nothing to do with our national security and then treats them like crap when they get home and need medical attention. Doesn't set a great example now, does it?

I am against war, but not against the people who have fought in a war. My best wishes go out to you and I apologize for the ignorance of some of your neighbors.

I think you need to get back on your meds. How does everyone in your neighborhood know where you have been and why would they even care about you unless they find your behavior frightening. Go to the VA, get help.....

If that doesn't work, MOVE. Go someplace that no one knows you

Who hate veterans?? Well, don't feel bad buddy, when I came back to the USA, from Vietnam, I was spit on and called baby killer and every body were against us. So don't feel bad because we love you and are very proud of you, our warriors. Thank you.and welcome home.

First of all, thank you for your service. Are the people doing the spitting vets themselves, or a bunch of neocons that will not go themselves?
