I wouldn't have bothered to reply, since most of the info is there, but I had to add one thing. I had a dish for many years and always kept lifeline cable (basic channels). Up until recently it was only a few bucks, and had some regional channels you couldn't get even w/local channel option. And this way if one went out I had the other.
Ironically when I did this I thought I would need the backup for the Dish, since, as folks posted here Dishes are known for going out. Well ironically my cable went out FAR more often than Direct TV. I can only think of a couple of really bad snowstorms where it went out briefly. And the quality and price are far superior. I cut it out last year to save some money, but I'm going back to it soon. Plus their customer service is so much nicer to deal with than cable.
So I definately would choose Direct TV (the lineup is much better/cheaper than Dish).

Directv for over 8 years and I love it. They are currently changing around packages again to try to satisfy all their 12 million customers, and that can be a pain when you are trying to cut back on a budget by downgrading programming and then some of the channels are not in the package you change to. Othwer than that is't a great service with PROPER installation. If you live in an area where there is snow you may want to be able to access the dish to get the snowoff so it does not interrupt your signal. If you have trees that are now void of leaves but will soon be covered with them make sure your installer is aware that the tree may become a problem.
By all means, call ONLY directv to place your order. Don't get an ad out of the newspaper. Just call 1-800-DIRECTV. They have certified, authorized, installers and if there are any problems you can deal directly with them from day one.
Above all else, READ the fine print (go on line to thier sight so you know what you are agreeing to)
And Just know that with the installation and onset of the programming, there will be a two or three year commitment to the service, or a penalty.
A good thing is you are able to suspend you service in case say you go on vacation and no one will be there to watch. For the period of suspension you will not be charged for services, PERIOD.
If you move they will do it for you for free.
Give it a go it's worth it.
P.S. It is 100% digital on all channels and cable still can't give you that. Som of cable channels are still analog.
I have 2 DVRs and I can't live without them. Imagine, never watch a commercial again! (until they find a way to embed them into the program).

Hi,
I'd say clearly Dish cause:
- cheaper
- more channels and more variety
- awesome picture quality
You might check out http://www.dishnetworkbargains.net - They currently run some promo with free Dish and DVR you might take advantage of. If you have any questions just call 'em up, they are professional and helpful.
Hope that helps.
Best wishes
Mike

I used to have Dish network it it sucked
Every time it was a little windy or it rained it would loose signal.
And even if all the time its very blury
I have comcast now and even though its a little more expensive its worth it becasue it never looses signal and its very clear.

i've got used the two cable and satellite tv for pc, and that i will inform you that i return to cable as quickly as my penal complex sentence to my satellite tv for pc employer is over. the two have introductory quotes that sound good, yet are diverse so it makes it harder to learn apples and apples. And as quickly as those introductory quotes are over, the two get very costly. And the two tend to boost quotes whilst it fits them. the only element that satellite tv for pc can brag approximately is that it has greater digital channels than cable, yet it particularly is meaningless. digital, analog, they look the comparable. digital would not recommend HD. the two cable and satellite tv for pc furnish HD it particularly is unquestionably HD-Lite. even nonetheless they're meant to be 1080, by using the time it gets to you, it rather is closer to 720. seems with regard to the comparable, cable or satellite tv for pc, and not all that lots diverse than 480. So interior the tip, right this is what makes each and every of the version to me. DISH and DirecTV the two require you to fasten your self right into a 24-month subscription. Cable would not. you are able to stop each time. What makes satellite tv for pc worse is that in case you upload ANY kit, it starts off the 24-month lock-in yet returned. you will think of that they had be grateful which you're spending additional funds with them, yet they penalize you for it.
