You can't please everyone. If you try, you probably are going to lose your true identity and be someone you aren't. No one is perfect and that's how it should be.

It is right up there with Groucho Marx's statement:
"I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member!"
It is meant to be funny in an existential sort of way. One of my favorites is I don't want everyone to like me...I want everyone to love me. Nana

It meant he didn't think to highly of some people and would be upset if they liked him. Examples, I don't want people who are prejudice to like me so I won't pander to them to get their affection.
