start taking lots of milk thistle and quit drinkinf for atleast 3 months this will rehab the liver try also apple cider vinegar or try 2 teaspoons of lemon juice a pinch of cayene pepper and 2 tbl spoons of maple syrup in 8 oz glass drink lots of water as well gl ive been thru this ordeal and came out great except all the other problems i have from drinking to much to long

In the end, yes, it'll be cold turkey. But unless there's some particular urgency (like cirrhosis), it's safer to reduce tolerance gradually. Gradual reduction will lessen possible harm from delirium tremens or seizures.
Your cousin can probably get it down by half, to a mickey a day, in just a week, then to just two or three ounces a day in another week or two. It's also smart to move from spirits to beer or wine. Eight glasses of pure water every day will help, with aspirins (not tylenol) as needed. Your pharmacist can recommend an over-the-counter supplement too.
But then it'll be about quitting completely. If your cousin can stay off all alcohol for at least three weeks, chances for abstinence become very good.

most detox goes better with some kind of medication. The danger of etoh detox is seizures-happens quite frequently actually. I know he doesn't want to go, but maybe he'd think of a center, or calling AA anonymously. I don't think it's safe to do it without help. People can die from it. They have good results with counseling.

The only way to do is to quit cold turkey. He needs to throw the whiskey away and vow never to taken another drink of alcohol so long as he lives.
