I have Microsoft Office Word. I need to put my surname and the page number in the top right hand corner of every page. I know how to get the page number up there, but how do I get my name there, too?

Regardless of which version of Word, it's simply

Top Menu "View" -> "Header and Footer"

This will allow you to access the Header and Footer spaces. It's all pretty much just typing like normal.

P.S. For page numbers, use the insert function instead of doing via Footer.
