The idea that the Bible is literally true and inerrant is less than 200 years old. Do you think it is a metaphorical work of human authors? What's your opinion?

I look at it as a historical document, tales and geneology records passed down from one generation to the next. how can you totaly believe something that isn't complete or original?? A great deal of it is made up of metaphors, riddles but I believe that the majority is not made up, rather written down as the authors remembered the events.

I absolutely believe the Bible is the work of human authors. I believe that, as a collection, these works reveal the true nature of God better than any others, and that is why they were selected - again by humans - to form the Canon of Scripture. The Bible is simply a record of Man's search for God. Inerrant? How any product of human activity could be inerrant is beyond me.

I certainly do. Jesus himself spoke in metaphors. Why wouldn't the bible be written the same way. It is the word of God, no doubt. But He certainly isn't limited to one book. The bible is a series of tales that each carry a special meaning. If and when God is ready to reveal that meaning, you will understand it. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if each story had a slightly different meaning for each reader. Until He reveals that meaning to you, then it will never be anything more than a cute story.

Sure I beleive that certain parts of it describe history, such as Moses, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, etc. However, God didn't give us a book that simply discribed the history of christians/Jews on earth. There is so much more to it, and I certainly don't understand it all. But I look forward to learning what God wants me to.

After studying western civilization and watching many historical documentaries I have come to know that the bible cannot be taken literally. For those who use the bible, it should be as a guideline not 100% truth. I cannot put faith in the book no longer.

I don't. I dont think Paul's letters should be in the Bible. And you can be a true believer and think the Bible is flawed. Do you worship God or the Bible? I think a lot of it is metaphorical, particularly Revelation. And I dont think Paul really knew Jesus and wasn't fit to write scripture.

I don't know about metaphorical but it definately is nto as literal as it may haev once been. It IS God's works but as seen by man who coudl not possibly haev words to describe some of the glory. It has then been translated. And translated. And translated some more.
Even though you and I apparently speak teh same language, if I tell you a story, when you retell it it WILL change. Over thousands of tellings, WOW it;s gonna be quite a bit different isn't it??
If two people watch teh same happening, they will BOTH tell ti slightly different even if both immediate witnesses.

I do. The Bible is a great inspiration-read the Pslams and Jesus's words. However, it has been translated in different languages over time and many people have been its authors. We can't take it with a literal meaning.

I believe it to be literal Truth and inerrant. Some things are given as allegories within it but Scripture defines itself and you can tell by the context which is one meant.
