the ideas that are contained in 'The Secret' are nothing new. they are just packaged and marketed in a new way.

there is nothing wrong with positive thinking, but what i didn't like was the focus on obtaining material posessions...wealth, cars, bicycles, etc. we need to focus our energy into solving hunger, finding a cure for AIDS and the like.

Yes! I have seen the Secret I think it's excellent. I still have a few things to learn from it and a few questions about. There is a lady here in Milwaukee who will be having a class about it sometime this month and I will be attending. Just to try and get a better understand. The law of attraction is such a powerful thing and can be really misunderstood. I now own the DVD and will be getting the book and audio.

Take care of yourself and keep thinking positive thoughts.

I agree that it has been around for quite a while, but I also believe that it may take a different approach for different people to get it. As for it being about materialism, I personally have yet to buy the book (my copy is waiting at Borders), but I will definetly look through it before I do. I don't want anything that touts materialism as being so great. I am a much better person being spiritual and grateful for the small stuff in life than I am owning a brand new lexus. Although it would be nice to have. LOL. I feel that a lot of religions and support groups (12 step groups in particular as those are ones I am personally familiar with) have the philosophy of you get what you put into life, and you shouldn't play yourself as a victim but be responsible for yourself and change the one and only person you can, YOU. I think it may help me focus on those things I am already familiar with from my support group, and yes, if its not solely at material things, I think it could help a lot of people. Its about time it was put out in a different way ! Anything that may help one person change for the better is worth the effort. IMHO.

My thoughts are this (and forgive the avatar as it's Star Trek theme today.. I know it makes it difficult to take me seriously)

The Laws of Attraction have been around for thousands of years, and have been used by many different faiths.

This author packaged them in such a way as to hook people in with a word like "secret" to sell books and videos.. she's making a mint off of what others have known for ages and gotten without having to pay for it.

There are some serious faults in the philosophy.

It's highly materialistic/very Americana, but besides that, It subtly states that those without somehow deserve their misfortune, and those with got themselves there just on "brainpower" alone, not nepotism, or being in the right place at the right time, or inheritance.

It's got LOTS O HOLES>
