If youhave known a guy/girl for 2 years and their special day is coming up. would it be appropriate to buy them an expensive gift, although the two of you are not in a relationship, but just friends. Do you think the other person would see you purchasing this gift as a way of saying we need to be together? your thoughts/suggestions/comments are appreciated.

You should only get them a nice, big, expensive gift if you REALLY like them. Otherwise, you're wasting your money. It happened to me.

Its not the "expensive" gift that matters. The part you should consern yourself with is the gift and if its appropriate to give to someone you used to love or not. Don't make it a gift that is expensive or over extravegant, make it a thoughtful nice gift that you know the partner will like because it has butterflies on it and you know she likes butterflies and its also a car and you know he likes cars. Combine the likes together for them both and look for something that will make them both happy. If you do it this way the partner of your friend will not think funny just thoughtful. Tack care Heather

it depends on the gift. and, quite frankly, the best way to show that you want more than a friendship, is to tell them...honesty is the BEST policy and as for the gift...buy the gift if you think it is appropriate. if the person you want to be in a relationship with wants more than a friendship as well then the gift will be nice but it shouldnt seal the deal, they should want you for wat you hav to offer, not wat gifts you can offer. i hope this helps a little.

How about this, Forget that loser, buy me the expensive gift, and buy him a happy meal at McDonald's? I know how to treat a lady!

I don't think that buying someone something expensive will tell them that you want to be with them. If you want to be with that person, say so.

If you do want to give him or her something nice because of their special day, do so, but make sure it's not too pricey or ridiculous.

Hopefully he will accept it in the manner which it was given---as a sign of friendship and affection.
