I see bums taking my bottles and cans here in the West Village, and I want in on some of that sweet action. But, I don't want to look desperate for my nickels by going to the store where I bought the beverages. Isn't there some drop off place or reverse vending machine that can take my booty and give me the deposit back? Thanks!!!

Larger supermarkets have such reverse vending machines that take bottles and give you store credit. (They used to give coins, but stopped doing that a long time ago.) I don't know if there are such stores in the West Village, though.

But what's wrong with taking them back to where you bought them? It's just Joe Public doing his bit for the planet by recycling.

I have seen people take them to Rite Aid stores. I couldn't find any info on recycling centers but apparently it is a state law that stores that sell items with a deposit must accept them (there are some exceptions).

Regular people and even Wall Street millionaires are seen taking their empty cans and bottles back to the store all the time. Grow up.
