No, not if it was a misdemeanor charge. And if your trying to become a police officer, I would say you learned your lesson. Good luck, it's a very noble proffession. I know some very good ones.

I'm from CA, USA. Most agencies, require no Felony convictions on your record. Misdemeanor's can sometimes be over looked, depending on how long ago they happened. Best person to ask is the recruiting department for whom you are applying with. Other than that, just apply and be up front with all of your past. If you state it and they see it, it is better than if you don't state it and they find it. I know some people who've had DUI's and are still Police Officers. Good luck.

I am not sure in Canada, but the United States the only thing that will prevent you from being a cop is an actual Felony, because primarily you cant carry a weapon and its not a good thing for Felons to be cops. I don't think it will hold you back in the application process, but maybe during the interview...maybe. But it shouldn't be a problem just as long as your honest. HONESTY is very important and what you described was a misdemeanor

Are you relating the recent information tale a pair of guy who farted next to the police officer who arrested him and then waved the noxious gasoline interior the police officer's face? at the same time as passing gasoline next to somebody and then waving it of their face is very impolite, i think of that's ridiculous that the guy interior the information tale have been given charged with attack for it.

don't know the criteria for Canada. But it all depends on the department you want to work for, shoplifting is not a felony unless it is over $400. It really depends on the department.

Four years ago is pretty recent. I think it would depend on how badly they need officers in the area you're applying for. If there is a lot of competition for the job, forget it. Apply in a small town to get your start.

depends on whether shoplifting is considered a misdemeanor or a felony.

Felonies usually ruin your chance of being human ever again.

If you pled no contest, that is the same as pleading guilty.
