Is the other switsh a 3 way switch? Did you connect all 3 wires to the dimmer? Did the 3 way switches wor before you added the dimmer? Did you put the wires on the right screws (wires)?

You probably wired a regular 3 position dimmer switch instead of a three way switch to wire a 3 way dimmer you have to have another switch at the other location.A three way dimmer switch will have 6 screw terminals.

Yep................ was the other switch a 3 way switch as well???
If not it'll only work when it's on............
