Living is it's own reward.

I bet you're the type of person who doesn't like ice cream because they melt too fast and have empty calories.

Well, I've actually asked myself that at one point too. As well as millions of other people.

My opinion, is to really not look at it in that viewpoint. We're living, what does it matter if it's going to end? Nothing lasts forever, so it's best to just make the most of what we have. We were given life, why take advantage of it just because it's going to end? Does it mean life doesn't matter because it ends? No. Why do we buy a car if the car is going to eventually break down and not work anymore? Why buy clothes (besides us getting in trouble for indecent exposure otherwise... ;P ) if the clothes are going to wear out? Why build friendships and relationships if there's a chance it might not last? Etc., etc.

I actually think we are put here for a reason. To leave a mark on society, I'm not so sure. I think it's our evolution into whether or not we've learned what we must while being on Earth. It seems as if us being here is our learning ground, and we grow and interact with one another while learning lessons in morality and value and so on and so forth. So... it'd just be a shame to throw all that away and waste valuable time because we're wondering why we're here.
And that's not meant to imply to you, just some in general who don't live because they feel there's no reason to.

Before the notions of enbalming, steel coffins, and concrete burial vaults the dead human was food for a critter or if shoddily buried became fertilizer for plant and microbial life. The modern burial deprives the nutrient pool of tons of biomass daily. The true reason for living is the same for any species. Survive to maturity reproduce and teach the next generation to survive and reproduce.

Add civilization to the problem now all are expected to leave a mark. Personally I go for the below the radar approach. The modern reason for living is to toil for reward. Trade the reward for goods to make living softer and more dependant on others, so we can toil for our rewards.

You are absolutely right. Without a future...why bother with the present? Because each person has a purpose under Gods plan (whatever that may be) and if you fulfill your part of that plan, you will leave this earth a better place than when you entered it and go to a better place than man's earth will ever be.

I figure you may as well make the best of a bad situation. I follow the words of Ghandi

Live like you will die tomorrow
Learn like you will live forever

To live for the betterment of our family, society, and species.

Or at least that is the purpose I have decided for my life.

The fact that you can ask that question means you are living, conscious, thinking. Look around you. An old man was planting an apple tree. It would take 14 years to bear fruit. His neighbor ridiculed him, "You will never eat of that tree." The old man replied, "My children will." In 1305, William Wallace, about to be executed, said, "Every man dies. Not every man truly lives." (Hollywood version)

What's the point in beginning, if there is going to be an ending ? That question is the answer to your question.

The point is that it's preferable to not living. For most people, anyway.

If you believe in God, then you know you were created for a purpose. You were created to reflect the image of God, which is love. You were created to relate to God and other intimately in love. You were created to live for eternity. God who gives life also will resurrect you to live again when you die. You choose now in this life if you are going to live your life for God or if you are going to live your life without God. What we do now will echo into eternity. Jesus is the firstborn of God who also is our proof that God will resurrect us too, who believe in Him.
