My father was in Northern Ireland in the 1950s, and he was not impressed with the British Army at all. They were very quick on the trigger, and there was one time where they had a sniper in a building, but a woman convinced them he was IRA. They peppered it with thousands of rounds of ammunition, and they didn't stop firing until well after it was confirmed the sniper was dead AND he was one of their own. Friendly fire is a fact of war, no matter what army is doing the fighting. The US has more soldiers in Iraq; more soldiers=more friendly fire.

OK whilst have issues with the whole friendly fire thing my self, yo are just baiting and should stop IMO, it is hard enough that other people are bloody fighting without two countries that ARE actually allies having snipes at each other.
and I feel that as I have a foot in both camps husband in US Navy and brother in HMS Navy with a son in the US Air Force two which have been there and one on his way I can at least have an opinion on this.........
Would also like to point out that HAD our government not been so flipping stupid and rush our men out there with them being very ill prepared IF NOT for the US troops being so generous with their items, food, boots etc then the Brits would have come to a grinding halt anyways and basically we have enough ffffffffing enemies with out falling out amongst our selves.

i cant believe how skeptical everyone is. I have no problem believing someone has witnessed terrible things in war and has become dissolutioned with a cause they never believed in much in the first place. i have friends over there and i have friends going over there. i dont think one of them believes we should be there, but they love doing their duty and serving their country. as for friendly fire incidents, considering how armed forces tend to cover up anything controversial (e.g. catterick) i reckon they occur more often than is reported. if you did fight over there then know that their are at least some people who appreciate what you did and agree with your objection to us being there in the first place.

I hate to say it, but IF you came under American guns, maybe it was because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. !!!
Americans are fed up with pulling every country imaginable out of world wars, economic set backs, famines, social unrest, internal political upheaval and ...you name it!
I say it is high time for America to spend its resources re-building and securing our own country.
We can start by TRYING to find leaders to elect that will:
1. Get rid of the IRS and income tax - implement a national sales tax in exchange (only exceptions: food, health and medicine, primary residence and "X" amount on a vehicle)
2. Get rid of the Dept of ED - they have done nothing to improve public education
3. Limit (severely) the Dept of Treasury
4. Streamline every other Federal Dept. we have - with one possible exception - The Dept of Defense. Pay our people more and expect them to secure the safety of the people paying them.
I don't see an "R" or "D" out there (other than maybe Ron Paul from Texas) who is worth voting for.
We may need another revolution in this country.
If this answer gets a "thumbs down" it probably comes from the asker or an IRS employee, a CPA, an accountant, a tax attorney or someone who doesn't understand what made this country GREAT.
Wow! Three thumbs down and counting! Now we know how the IRS employees spend most of their time.

No.
Although there have been regrettable instances of "friendly fire", these are thankfully rare and genuine mistakes.
Hostile activity from insurgents is much more of a threat to troops lives.
Please note that I am a UK citizen, but nevertheless have admiration for the troops out in Iraq, whatever their nationality.
Shame on the governments who sent them there, though.

The way you have asked the question, leads me to think that you probably haven't been in Iraq fighting, and dodging bullets, in our armed forces.
I also think it will be a very happy day here in the UK when our lads come home for good!

I agree with you. It's a completely avoidable situation and the reasons for it have been proved inaccurate. I have the greatest respect for British soldiers, but they shouldn't be in Iraq and my own opinion is that they're not expendable assets but human beings and they deserve better treatment. Surely their job is to defend Britain? Too may soldiers have died in Iraq, too many Iraqi's have died, and the situation will never improve.
All the best to you.

Sorry, I'm fairly reasonable but what you are saying doesn't sound like the truth. More like what the people who haven't been out there may think.
But then again, I've not been there, maybe if you made yourself sound more credible people may listen.

I'm so sorry you had to endure that -- it must be hard fighting a pointless war on the side of a country with an incompetent president!!!!
