Well, i know what you mean, I am 13 and well, first make sure your parents are okey with it. I know that is you like working with animals you could walk dogs for money, bathe dogs, babysit, in the winter you could shovle sidewalks, you could watch after dogs, train dogs, clean for people, try to get a job, (I think since your 14 you could get a job @ Mcdonalds), if your school has a school store you could work there, you could do a fundraiser, sell baked goods, have a garage sale, help peple with spring cleaning. im sure there are many more things out there that you could do but those were the main ones i could think of. And just to tell you, I very much DO NOT agree with amanda c. because there are many more things that you could do to make money then those to things. and i am sure that if your parents are okay with it that they will pay for the money and possible vet bills.
I think that you should seriously think about this because puppys cost a lot of money unless you adopt one at a near by shelter wich would be really good!!

You should start with the easy jobs like helping out around the house more for $5. You could always baby sit if you know anybody with a child that needs some free time. Something my sister did when she need money was she got our mom to buy her a big bag of candy and she sold it at school. It seems like chump change but a lot of kids will by lots of candy when they're hungry.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Also if you aren't looking for a specific you should look threw the Classifieds section in the news papers. There are plenty of free dogs/ puppies that need good homes. Are you could search around town to find people with a pregnant dog and they don't want the litter of puppies on the way.
But still the cost of the supplies is going to be tough. So you could do like me and go to a friends who have/ had a dog and ask them if they have any extra supplies you could lose. You could also visit you local stores like Dollar General, or Family Dollar. They have cheap things that will do for the time being until you can get a good paying job to buy better things.
Also if you really want a job. Try McDonalds..or a local skating ring. The hire at 14 years old.

Well first you need to make sure it is okay with your parents. Some money making ideas for a 14 yr old would be.....Post signs around the neighborhood to be dog walker or dog sitter, mow yards, take trash out, simple yard work, offer a Spring Cleaning/Organizing peoples garages, ask your parents or family members if you can do extra chores for money such washing cars, baby sitting, cleaning the house and extra things. You can adopt a puppy at your local dog shelter for under $50 usually. These dogs really need homes and make wonderful pets.

I’m constantly surprised at how many people seem to have no idea how expensive it is to own a dog. I’ll be blunt: At 14, you have almost no hope of making enough money to buy a dog, spay/neuter the dog, buy food, toys, several shots, pay for unexpected vet bills, etc. Remember that owning a dog is an ongoing money vacuum. You will not need just enough to buy the dog, but also $500-$1000 in the first year alone to deal with upkeep, as well as several hundred dollars in each subsequent year for food, heartworm prevention, toys (they are ruined easily and need replaced all the time), and vet care.
I’m not trying to crush your dreams here, and I definitely understand you wanting a dog. But at 14, the best you can really do is babysitting or a paper route, and that is not going to get you enough money to cover all the costs of a dog.
You (and the dog) would be better off waiting until you are old enough to get a job that pays at least minimum wage so you’ll have a steady flow of cash and can cover all of the expenses.
EDIT - Yournextamericanidol - I did not say those were the ONLY things a 14 year old could do to make money, but that they were the BEST things. I had a paper route when I was 14, and I made more money than all of my friends who just did chores or odd jobs.

well you can mow yards or clean up yards for people..Since you love dogs maybe ask someone to walk their dogs. Maybe go to a kennel offer to help them clean up the kennels. There are many things a 14 year old can do to make money you just need the back bone. If you want something bad enough you have to work for it. It seems as though you are willing so good luck to you and your new puppy.

Legally at 14 you cannot own a dog on your own, because you cannot drive your dog to the vet and cannot be held responsible for vet bills, you cannot work either, get a paper route, baby sit thats about it kid. wait until your parents let you have a dog and are willing to help you take care of it, seriously

You can do yard work or wash cars. Lots of people are looking to get their yards cleaned up after winter or to give their cars a nice bath. I know I do!! People are also starting to do spring cleaning and some need help. Elderly people, single mothers, ect. You can put signs up "need an extra hand in sping cleaning?"
Good luck!!

odd jobs.............I personally would be more than happy to pay for someone to pull the weeds in my garden...........bad back and they are starting to really get on my nerves.........
Mowing lawns..............baby sitting............running errands etc etc............
Before you put all this effort into earning the cash are you actually allowed one or has your parents said you have to buy it..................as the buying the dog is the very least of what you have to lay out for a dog..............vet check up are a MUST, maybe getting the dog chipped, leash, food and water bowls FOOD, treats.....toys....will it have to be crated whilst at school etc etc...........do you have the space for one.
Also why do you have to buy it........can you not go to the humane society and get one that has already been vet checked etc at a much lower cost?
