Hey try 1- changing ur shampoo to a nourishing brand for damaged hair like Herbal essences, 2- do a warm almond oil treatment for ur hair , or warm some coconut milk n massage ur scalp n hair with it twice a week, then shampoo n rinse ur hair. N voila ur hair will look great again!!

You need to use a medicated shampoo and a leave-in conditioner for your hair. If you are going to use some type of hair gel, make sure it doesn't contain alcohol and also don't apply it to hair if your hair is very wet. That dries your scalp which in turn is why your hair is becoming damaged. Especially, if you are in the sun alot. Good Luck!!!! I'm a licensed barber.

Wash it with a gentle moisturizing shampoo, condition it and dry gently, just pat with towel, don't rub! That breaks brittle hair! Now; purchase some "Bio Silk" liquid silk protein treatment, it looks clear, like oil, use it as it states, I used it on damaged hair after getting all evened and ends that were split cut off--I stopped coloring and after shampoo I added it to scalp and main body of hair (hair was to mid back) and especially the ends (this only required 2 quarter size dollops) (that's nothing to save your hair!)I used a round brush hair dryer gently on low to dry, (gentle heat makes the oil infuse in the hair better) I then only wash the hair every 3 days. I also use Bio-silk oil EVERY day, just a dime size blop mostly to the ends but a bit on the top and sides for shine (it really gives it shine!) but mostly it makes the hair more elastic and able to resist the daily stress we put it through! So, limit hair spray and shampooing and coloring and too much application of product like Gels, it drys the hair. I followed this plan for 2 yrs. now my hair is grown to my waist again and I just had it trimmed and it's growing more! Healthy natural hair! Good luck!

Use a deep cleansing shampoo to get everything out, then some sort of reconstructing mask and stop putting gel in it! And getting a cut will definitely help, especially if you have split ends

Did you use blow drier when you put your gel?
Lay off on gels for 6 months, use special shampoos and conditioners that help fix the hair, and you're good to go.

Get some good shampoo/conditioner like Nexxus Humectress and let the conditioner sit on your hair for a long time - like maybe 20-30min then rinse it out. Then you can follow with a good leave in conditioner like Nexxus Headress. That should soften up your hair and make it look healthier.
