Matthew: In his Gospel, Matthew sets out to show that Jesus is the long-expected Messiah of Israel, the only lawful Claimant to the throne of David.

John: John's purpose in writing was that his readers might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God as second person of the Trinity, and that believing, persons may have eternal life.

John tends to lean more to the spiritual side of Jesus, where Matthew is more on a mission to prove that Jesus was the Messiah. Matthew spends a lot of time pulling verses from the Old Testament out of context to desperately prove that Jesus was prophesied in the OT. If you put those verses back in context it becomes clear that they actually had nothing to do with the coming of the Messiah.

I believe they had the same Jesus. So Jesus portrait would be the same.

If they both drew a picture of Jesus, the picture would look different depending on how good an artist they were, or what colors were emphasized.

John saw Jesus on earth, and also a vision of Jesus described in Revelation. The vision looked different than the Jesus before Jesus ascended to the right hand of God.

Matthew writes about Jesus as the Jewish Messiah and the one who fulfilled all that was written in the law, the prophets, and the psalms.

John speaks about Jesus being the almighty and eternal creator God.

Put the two together and you get the whole picture.

It has been surmised that the focus of Matthew is to reveal Jesus as the King.

And John is basically saying that Jesus is God.

specific, it would. And so does the account in Luke's gospel of the final Supper while Jesus and his disciples met to partake of the Passover meal: "After taking the cup, he gave thank you and pronounced, 'Take this and divide it between you. For I permit you realize i won't be able to drink back of the fruit of the vine till the dominion of God comes'." (Luke 22:17-18) Did Jesus and his disciples drink grape juice, or did they drink wine? Wine grew to become into somewhat under the impact of alcohol on the marriage at Cana (John 2:a million-11) and wine grew to become into no longer constrained in straight forward terms to celebrations. It grew to become right into a basic drink, and probable lots safer to drink than water! I in actual fact doubt that the cup Jesus and his disciples drank from contained grape juice, and there is no longer something interior the Bible to propose that that's incorrect to relish a pitcher of wine. certainly, a sprint wine is physically powerful for the tummy (a million Timothy 5:23).

They have little in common.

Synoptic gospels: Jesus = prophet, maybe son of god
John: Jesus is son of God, maybe god

The whole trinity nonsense and the rest of christian mumbo jumbo are mostly based on John.
