Become very valuable to a business doing business in China. There is a great demand for Western-educated Chinese speakers and if you can speak it pretty fluently, you'll be able to secure a pretty good job in Asia or with companies doing business with China.

Order take away, get work related as a translator @ the next Olympic Games for ya country or even go visit China, Teach English when ya travel there and make some new mates or money !

Don't think about how it will be useful to you, just learn it for the challenge of learning a new language.

You can work for the Chinese Embassy in Washington (I assume you're one of us Americans). They employ a number of Americans there. Also the Chinese delegation at the UN, the Chinese consulates in various cities or for the UN itself as a translator/interpreter.
You can also work for the State Dept. or our Embassy in Beijing/our consulates in Shanghai and Hong Kong. You can work for Berlitz as a teacher of Chinese or in China as a teacher of English.
Many of our colleges are beginning to offer courses in Chinese as well. You can try to get a job at one of those institutions as an instructor in Chinese. Many American corporations doing business with and/or in China also prefer employees who know Chinese.
The opportunities are endless...
