He needs a "nothing in life is free" program. He does not get access to bed or sofa or any elevated furniture.
And he has to earn priviledges.
Here are some descriptions of it:

If the only thing he has done is growl, then please don't put him down! Is this something new he is doing? He could be sick or injured. Otherwise, I'd say he growls simply because he doesn't want to move.....or because you woke him up...either way if it was me I'd ask a vet, just in case he is sick or injured, and if he isn't..... a vet might be able to give you some tips on training him or refer you to a good trainer or training program in your area.

If you aren't interested in those options you could try to find him an appropriate new home, just be sure to inform any potential new owners about his growling "issue". Someone else might be willing to work with him, if you decide not to.

Good Luck!

You are not being dominant enough. You need to show him that you are the boss and that you mean business.

Have a nice pet bed available for him so he has somewhere cozy to go. When you take him off your bed or sofa, you need to be very firm - and if you want him to stay off there cannot be an exceptions! If he has to be off sometimes, he has to be off ALWAYS.

Make him earn his food, also. Never feed him unless he sits or does a command for you. This will help him learn that he is not the boss.

He growls at you because he has learned that he can run all over you. I would get a professional trainer to come out to your house and help you with him. He needs to have guidelines and limits. I wouldn't let him on any of the furniture any more. If you try to re-train him on your own, you could get bit. I would get some professional help ASAP!
Good luck.

Watch the "dog whisperer"... You are allowing the dog to be alpha... Our ridge back would growl at us "only" when he would get on our bed... Being alpha I took the bed privilege away...he is forbidden on it. He understands it is the place for the 2 alpha humans to sleep, not him the low dog in the pack.

put him down?? wow , what a quitter, looking for the easy way out... your dog does not view you as alpha.... get yourself to obedience school and learn how to properly train your dog..... this is not an uncommon thing... have heard of yorkies, chihuahuas etc.. doing the same thing... it is NOT a reason to KILL the dog,,, you simply have not trained your dog properly shame on you
