My TSH was .02 on the 5th day past ovulation(conception), and I'm now 17 days pregnant. Based on the low value of .02, my endo asked me to stop taking the 50mcg/day syntrhoid now, but I know pregnant women usually need thyroid meds increase instead of decrease or even stopping taking meds as the endo suggested. I do not have any symtoms of synthroid overdose, except heartburn that might come from pregnancy. My heart rate is 80/minute, and I usually have constipation rather than diarrhea. I requested a new thyroid test to see the new TSH, but the doc insisted on putting me off synthroid for 3 weeks and retest by then???? What should I do? I heard it's dangerous to stop taking synthroid while pregnant and the most important thing is I do not have any symtoms of overdose, I have pretty normal heart rate and I feel tired & sleepy all the time.

Any input is highly appreciated.

All the best with the pregnancy.

A thing to consider was the time of day of the testing. On Synthoid, the test should be done in the morning only. This is because TSH is at its highest point while we sleep, so you want to test first thing in the morning. At 2PM, TSH is at its lowest point.

You could try as your doctor recommended for a few days and if you feel the hypo symptoms coming back you could call the doctor and ask if perhaps you could split the 50mcg pill and take 25 mcg until the retest.

About the constipation.....try adding walnuts or almonds in cereal each morning or in a salad at lunch time. This may help. I do tis every day, along with taking a fiber supplement and 2 teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar in ice tea before dinner.

Do not take any herbs while pregnant. All you want for treating your condition while pregnant is thyroid medication. Make sure to get your thyroid tested every 4-6 weeks making sure your morning TSH is around 1.0

Why don't you supplement your thyroid with iodine? From my reading it seems like the min nutritional requirement is really not enough to supply what the thyroid need. You can paint some iodine on your skin - the faster it absorbers the more you need it. Once the color stays your body back on track.

You do have a thyroid even if it is under producing so you will not be thrown into thyroid storm - most unpleasant if not fatal - and 3 weeks will be about the time it will take to get the synthetic out of your system to see just what you are really producing on your own. But keep in close touch with the endo if you start to feel really lousy. Good luck and congrats on the baby.

Omg I can't believe how rude some ppl can be..what an a s s for telling you you're schitzo w/o having 1st diagnosed you..idiot!

Ok, for your problem, I would get a 2nd opinion from another doctor on whether or not you should stop taking your thyroid med. If they agree that you should, go to your local Health Food Store, GNC or some other kind of Vitamin store and tell them you need the herb that helps control thyroid disease. I forget the name of it, I took it years ago and it regulated mine to the point where I didn't need the prescription from the doc anymore. Don't bother asking your doc about it, most don't recognize herbs/vitamins to help you because they don't want to have you helped by any other means than their prescriptions. My reg. doc gave me a hard time when i told him I was taking a homeopathic herb vitamin..he was pissed because I no longer needed his $45/bottle med, lol.

Good luck to you.

That's a good question. Did you ask the doctor why? Because you shouldn't stop taking it suddenly. Maybe it's time for another doctor's opinion. It's in the FDA pregnancy category A, so yes, it's safe.

***And what the he** is that "psychiatrist" freak talking about? I looked at his history---he's a nut case. Just ignore him/her.
