This is the most amazing question. What ever happened to giving a gift of money in a greeting card, and wishing the couple well. Then the couple can put the money into an account and do whatever they want with the gift, including paying bills for the wedding if necessary. Setting up an account for what is essentially a fund raiser sounds pretty cold and materialistic.
Maybe a simple wedding you can afford would be in better taste.

just open a regular checking account with your name on it and tell the teller what your plan is. People should be able to go to the bank and say I want to deposit $25 (or whatever amount) into Firstnam Lastname's account. Then they will pull your account up and put in the money. It doens't mean people will have access to get the money out - the only way they can do this is if you put their names on the account.
My mom just did this the other day- she went to the bank and put in money (didn't need account number or anything) and it was a nice little surprise to see osme extra money.
Just make sure you ask the bank about your intensions they may have a special account for you.
God Bless

Some how this just seems sooooo tacky! You say you don't plan on anyone paying for the whole wedding, so you plan on spreading the cost around by having people make direct deposits. Maybe you should plan on a wedding you can afford, and if people want to gift you with money, they'll put a check in a gift card. Guests are invited to celebrate your wedding day with you, not to pay for your wedding. You are suppose to entertain them....they are your QUESTS!

Simply go to your bank and open a savings account or cheque account - a savings account will mean you will get some interest on the money too!
tell people the account number and bingo:-)
I don't know why people are saying that it means people can take the money out too - you need to have i.d for that and be the person who is named in the account!

Paypal is a great idea or having your bank set up a deposit only account- where you are the only one who can withdraw the $$. People can have money automatically transferred from their work checks into accounts as long as they know the option.

you can use your own personal account. tellers will allow other to deposit money into your account. My mom puts money in my account that way all the time (i am away at school). And I have paid my roommates owed money that way as well. The teller may ask the individual for a reason, but they can just be honest. really the only problems would be if someone were trying to WITHDRAW from your account. that, they would not allow.
The people will need your full name and account number.

purely open a customary mark downs account - in case you desire get entry to to the money. The activity earned can no longer placed you in yet another tax bracket any time quickly. won't make a whit of distinction. All banks are an identical. Do you no longer have an account of your very own someplace?

No there is no such account.
When people give cash they write a check. They also give gift cards.
If people can put money in they can also take money out....you would not want this.
Also it would be kind of rude to suggest that you are way too busy to carry all their money to the bank and deposit it yourself.

No it is tacky and not in bridal etiquette. It is so obnoxious that it is so hard to even comment on it. If your wedding guests contribute, let them give a gift in an envelope like normal people.

Yes, you can open a checking account and just let the people know its number (both account and routing numbers), or you can open a Pay Pal account, it's the easiest way to receive money electronically, and let the people know your Pay Pal email address, so they can send money to it. Their website is: www. paypal.com
