I am so sick of being fat. I had a left thyroid lobectomy over a year ago. Now I only have half a thyroid, my meds are all screwed up, and I can't lose a pound to save my life. How do you lose weight with a sick thyroid?

I have the opposite problem I have a hyper thyroid which of course has the opposite effect on my body but the one thing I can help you with is that you need to discuss this with your doctor, you have a medical condition not just an inconvenience... Talk to your doctor...

Most need the morning TSH around 1.0 before they can lose weight.

Once you get the TSH to 1.0, reduce carbs and exercise. That should work, if not think about switching to a T4/T3 medication and test for insulin resistance by having a fasting insulin and glucose.

I'm hypothyroid too. I got my morning TSH to 1.0 and still no weight loss. I switched to a natural med, still no weight loss but I felt better. I tested for insulin resistance and got diagnosed and treated and I lost 15 pounds. You have to do this in steps and hopefully the first step works for you. If one thing is out of balance, weight loss will be extremely difficult

Is your thyroid level now normal? If you aren't under-active then in theory you should be able to lose weight. If you are under-active then perhaps a higher dosage of thyroxine should be given?

My mum has the same problem as her metabolism is low (even though she has been over-active as well - she had radio iodine and thus went under-active)..

I suggest you have a review of your medication, as this isn't particularly fair on you... i understand how frustrating it must be.

First are you on thyroid medication.and do you have yearly check ups with your doctor,,including a blood test.I had a hyperactive thyroid and had my thyroid removed, and once i started on my thyroid med.my doctor told me i could go under active or over active again so he has had to adjust my med.twice.So you should speak to your doctor about that.I think that may help, your med. may not be the right strength.Hope this helps.
