Doctors prefer you to sleep on your left side for proper blood flow. If you just can't get comfortable on your left side, sleeping on your right side or stomach is fine. (Until you just can't anymore though --- you'll see when that belly gets bigger) Doctors don't mind you sleeping from side to side but they would rather you never to sleep on your back.

Get some rest. Sleep is vital. A well rested mommy means a healthier baby.

sleeping on your stomach is almost always safe. sleep safety during pregnancy generally revolve around optimal blood flow and nutrient supply to the placenta and the fetus. A main concern is the weight of your enlarging uterus pushing down directly on the large veins that return blood to your heart. The most notable effects can occur when women lie flat on their back.

I assume you are asking this because you are pregnant. Usually during pregnancy they don't want you sleeping on your back because there is a nerve that gets compressed while you are in that position. If you can't sleep on your left side then sleep on your right side, or kind of half-way on your back, half-way on your side. If it helps, get a small pillow to put between your knees while you are sleeping on your side, this helped me a lot while I was pregnant, usually I sleep on my stomach but of course that became impossible!

sleeping flat on your back could constrict blood flow to your body. The weight of the baby pressing directly down on your aorta, and other major blood vessels could actually be harmful.

It's okay but uncomfortable, i would always wke up with terrible lower back pain. Try a pillow under your knees.
