It's not the color, it's the peroxide. You may have to bleach to get the red to show up. But you need a REALLY good conditioner. Get one for color treated hair. A professional one.

honestly your hair will feel more damaged,thats a fact black is verry hard to get out of the hair so go to a professional salon and make sure they are a certified color expert! trust me if done this b4!!keep in mind that red also comes out of the hair the fastest it fades quick!! after coloring your hair get some conditioner for color treated hair try paul mitchell it works great but purchase at salon or beauty supply only!!i would also get a shampoo and conditioner for reds to keep the color longer!! make sure to take a pic with you to the salon so they know exactly what you want done!!!good luck =}

Red highlightes look awesome on black hair, i would get a dark red so it doesn't stand out too much, and if your going to do it yourself and not professionaly, then i would be very careful. But i would reccommend that you get it done professionally, b/c when it comes to putting dye on top of dye, it might turn out a funky color.
*best of luck*

It relies upon on how bleached your hair is rather. If its one in all those grimy blond- then you certainly gets a darker purple shade. despite if that's amazingly blond- like incredibly much white blond- your hair will finally end up an extremely remarkable, vivid purple. the right shade shown on the container, maximum in all probability! And the colour will final longer too! people who desire to dye their hair a shade like purple, and opt for it to come again out a sturdy shade are recommended to bleach it first. in case you do opt for it to be very remarkable, then you certainly will opt for your hair to be the brightest blond shade obtainable, so which you will desire to circumvent utilising brown hair dye in any respect expenditures; in case you utilize it previously hand, bleaching it is going to turn it orange, no longer blond! And in case you dye it brown after bleaching, it is going to easily break all your difficult artwork because of the fact it commonly takes a jointly as for darkish hues like brown to bathe out!
